The party had been going on for hours, yet the music was loud as ever, and the drinks were still flowing. The police had been called once this evening, and somehow, through Ryan's major communication skills, he got them to let everyone off with a warning.
People were sliding down the long railings of the staircases and jumping from the roof into the pool. Anyone who found themselves stuck in the splash zone was basically soaked by the cold water.
John had been lucky enough to evade going outside, mainly sticking with close friends and other people he knew. Jaren was around and about, chatting up fellow streamers and colleagues alike. When they had parted ways, they didn't know, but John had spent half his time acting like he didn't care, and the other half looking around for Jaren.
The two had arrived together, and they planned on leaving together as well. In fact, the Uber ride to the party was a wild one, and judging by some of the questions people had asked John, it seemed as though Jaren had been the one to tell the story first.
For a while, John was starting to adjust to the social setting without his friend, thinking that Jaren had simply been outside with other people. It was true, as he was about to find out from Swagger, who had just come from the back door of the large house.
John could tell just by the annoyance on his face — and the slight dampness of his clothes — that he'd been splashed with pool water. "Hey," he started, pulling down his balaclava for a quick drink.
"What's up?" John replied, the nonchalant reaction created a look of surprise on Swagger's face. He could tell by the raise of an eyebrow that something had happened out there, "So, I'm guessing that getting splashed is the least of your worries right now, huh?"
"More like least of your worries," the shorter man huffed, catching the quick look of confusion on John's face.
"What happened now?"
"Jaren is super fucked up," he lowered his voice, knowing that things get serious when Jaren's real name is used.
"Really?" John scoffed, setting down his drink, "And you left him by himself?"
"Oh, not a chance," Swagger chuckled, although the concern on John's face hadn't eased, "No, Cam is out there acting like his human crutch."
"I'll just call an Uber, I was getting tired anyway..." John muttered, fishing for his phone in one of the many pockets he wore.
Swagger placed a hand on his shoulder, grabbing his attention, "There's an extra room on the top floor if you don't wanna deal with the hassle of trying to get him into his hotel room." The offer was tempting, and John really was feeling tired, but he didn't want to inconvenience anyone. Seeing as this party was already going to take a huge toll on them in the morning, he didn't want to add to the pile of things to take care of. Swagger could sense the answer miles before John could form the words, "Seriously, he's fucking zooted. You'd be doing yourself a favor."
John shook his head with a smile of disbelief at his friend's choice of words, "Thanks, I should probably get him upstairs before he hurts himself," John spoke, shoving his phone in his back pocket. He took a couple steps toward the back door before turning quickly, "He's still in the back, right?"
Swagger shrugged, "He should be."
With the roll of his eyes, he was out the back door. The music had been muffled as he closed the sliding glass door, but the constant chattering was almost just as loud. Trying his best to navigate through the crowded patio while avoiding the water overflowing from the pool when people jumped in, he searched for Cameron and Jaren.
