4. Fish Jokes

Shen Wei rushed to his room before his mother and Yezun knew that he heard all their conversation.  Shen Wei holds his heart to endure the pain. He don't want to be sick tonight, because tomorrow he and Yunlan will go to buy fish together.  Shen Wei decided to lie in bed while hugging his pillow. Again he could not help crying.

Shen Wei still couldn't believe what he just heard. Yezun hates him for various reasons. His heart ached to hear what Yezun said, but Yezun wasn't completely wrong.  Everything that happened was his fault too, because he was sick.  If he wasn't sick, Yezun wouldn't be like this.  Yezun will be happy and might be friends with him. Then his parents can also pay more attention to Yezun, and no longer feel burdened. Shen Wei thought that he is only a burden to his family. Maybe if only he died, everything could return to normal. He was curious, when his heart decided to give up and stop beating?

Shen Wei shook his head to erase the thoughts of death. Not for now, Shen Wei thought. He will try to fix his relationship with Yezun, he will also make his parents pay more attention to Yezun and again, he wants to spend a lot of time with Zhao Yunlan, his new friend. He wants to feel what it was like to have friends, even though Zhao Yunlan was older than him.  But this is a new experience, at least Shen Wei wants to enjoy his time with his new friend before his heart decides to stop beating.

Shen Wei could not recover, but at least he had to survive.

The next day Shen Wei gets ready, Yunlan will pick him up shortly. He tried to cover the bottom of his eyes that turn blue because of pain and also because of crying last night, after that he chose the best clothes for today. Not long after that he heard the sound of a car in front of their house.  Zhao Yunlan has come.

"Thank you for allowing Wei to go with me. You don't need to worry, I will take good care of Wei" said Zhao Yunlan when Mrs. Shen invited him to sit in the living room.

"I know you will Yunlan, this is the first time Wei go without his family or his doctor.  Wei is very excited to go with his new friend" answered Mrs. Shen "Does Yezun know this?"

"No" Zhao Yunlan shook his head "I know that Yezun and Wei's relationship is not good. Yezun will be very angry if he finds out that I go with Wei.  So please help me by keep this secret from Yezun.  I just want to make Wei happy, I'll talk to Yezun myself later"

"We understand that. Yezun just jealous because all the attention is on Wei. He did not understand how sick Wei is.  Doctors allowed Wei to return to Shanghai not because Wei is getting better, precisely because Wei's illness is getting worse. There is nothing they can do anymore"

"What do you mean?" Zhao Yunlan asked with surprise

"Wei cannot be cured unless he has a heart transplant. But it is very difficult considering the heart donor is very limited. I mean, we're talking about heart, the most important part of the human body.  We had discussions with doctors without Wei's knew it. And we decided to bring Wei back to Shanghai because he really wanted to go home. We say that Wei's condition is getting better and he can do whatever he wants Just to fulfill his wishes before it's too late. Of course we did not give up and were still waiting for Wei's turn to get a heart donor. We hope that donors are available before it's too late"

"I don't know what to say Mrs. Shen ..." Zhao Yunlan was speechless

"Yezun doesn't understand that and thinks we spoil Wei too much. We just want to make him happy, who knows maybe tomorrow he will leave us all.  Yezun doesn't understand and instead hates Wei" Mrs. Shen lowered her head

"Maybe you should talk about this to Yezun, I'm sure Yezun will understand" Zhao Yunlan held Mrs. Shen’s hand

"Yezun never gave us the opportunity to explain that. He chose to be angry and my husband is a very temperamental person. Every time we try to explain to Yezun it always fails and ends in a fight" Mrs.  Shen looked at Zhao Yunlan's face and smiled "Yunlan, please keep this a secret from Wei. I beg you please make Wei happy, you are Wei's first friend, please make him feel something new that makes him happy.  I just want him to be happy.  At least before he decides to leave us here"
