NEGATIVE SEVEN

Chapter 1

My head was pounding and my back was sore. I opened my eyes and my vision was blurry. As it focused back I noticed the trees. I felt the grass against my hands, my legs, my arms. I shot up, even though it hurt my back. I wondered where I was. I wondered who I was. I noticed a device start buzzing next to me. A cell phone. Someone named Frost was calling. I picked up the phone and hesitated. I needed help. I didn't know who was calling. I held my breath and picked up the phone.

"Hello? Madisyn?" A voice on the other end said.

"Madisyn? Who's Madisyn? Is that me?" I asked into the phone shaking. My mouth was dry, it hurt to talk.

"Who is this? How do you have Madisyn's phone?" They asked.

"I don't know who I am! I don't know where I am! I woke up and this phone was with me!" I said panicking.

"Okay, calm down," A different voice said. I heard this voice before, I didn't know who it was but I knew that I knew them. The caller switched to facetime.

"Turn your camera on," I hesitantly pressed the camera button. The girl on the other end studied me for a minute.

"Oh thank goodness! You're okay!" She said. "Madisyn, listen to me okay?"

"That-that's my name?" I asked.

"Yeah, and--" The connection cut.

"Hello? Hello?!" I yelled. I heard footsteps, I stood up and spun around. Something emerged from the trees and let out a noise. I dropped my phone and took off running. I didn't know where I was going. All I knew in that moment was that thing was trying to hurt me. I ran through bushes with sharp thorns and almost hit a bunch of trees. Adrenaline was the only thing that kept me running. I tripped and tumbled down a small hill.

"Hey!" I hear someone yell. I got up and kept running.

"Hey! Stop!" I hear another person yell. It was a group. I looked back and someone was right behind me.

"STOP!" He screamed grabbing my shirt and yanking me back.

"Help! Help me!" I cried out fighting to get away from him. I fell down to the ground and he kneeled next to me still holding me. I started hitting him.

"Let go! Let go!"

"Madisyn, It's me, It's okay," he said.

"I've never seen you in my life!" I screamed pushing him backwards. I sat on the ground staring at him and his group, breathing heavily. I recognized one of the girls from the call. Same pink hair and green eyes. She must've noticed me staring at her. She took a few steps closer.

"Madisyn, do you remember me?" She asked.

"I'm sorry, I don't" I said, grabbing my shirt.

"My name is Remi, I'm your best friend, we've been friends since preschool," She got on her phone and showed me a picture. It was of her and...me? I didn't know what I looked like. I could tell I had brown hair and pale skin like the girl in the picture but the eyes...I had no idea.

"You almost fell off that cliff," Remi pointed her flashlight towards where the ground just stopped.

"That's why Frost grabbed you," I guess I somewhat believed her. I mean they sorta saved my life.

"You're hurt, can you trust us enough to let Elaine heal you?" She pointed towards a girl with brown hair.

"O-okay," I said.

"I'm afraid my ability isn't working today, I'm going to have to do something different," She said as she walked past Remi. Remi stayed silent and just watched as she took a medical kit out of her backpack. I stared silently at the ground while she fixed my wound.

"Okay, done," Elaine looked back at Remi.

"Come on Madisyn, Let's go home, and don't worry we will have your memory back in no time," Remi said with a reassuring smile. You didn't have to be a genius to know that her smile was fake. Elaine helped me up and I started walking with them. After a brisk walk we came to a cabin. We walked inside. On the left side of the main room was a small kitchen. The other side was a living room. There was a staircase towards the back and a hallway that lead to two rooms. A brown haired girl was sitting at the kitchen table and two boys were on the couch.

"We found her," Elaine said walking to one of the back rooms. I assumed it was her bedroom.

"It's late, I'll show you to our bedroom." Remi said taking my hand. "Kali, we are going to bed," she told the brown haired girl at the table.

"Okay, goodnight," Remi led me up the stairs and to a room on the left. There were two twin beds on opposite sides of the room. A window sat on the wall between them.

"That's your bed," She said pointing to the bed on the left. She walked over to her bed and took off her boots. I walked over to my bed and laid down.

"How did I wake up in the forest?" I asked. She was silent for a moment.

"I don't know, you disappeared about a week ago, I don't know what happened to you when you were gone," She replied.

"Can you tell me about myself, so i could maybe remember?"

"Sure. Well, your name is Madisyn Rinell, you are 15, The boy with white hair, Frost, is your boyfriend--"

"WHAT?" I yelled. She erupted into laughter.

Just kidding, but you guys totally like each other," she winked.

"You are such a weirdo,"

"I am not the weirdo, miss memory loss," She said, throwing a stuffed animal at me. I laughed and threw it back.

"Well, we better get to sleep, goodnight Madisyn,"

"Goodnight Remi,"

I woke up to the sound of glass shattering. I sat up in bed. Remi and I looked at eachother. We heard someone running up the stairs. Elaine and Kali crashed into our room.

"They found us! Get out!" Elaine yelled running down the hall towards the others' rooms. There was a huge crash downstairs. Remi jumped up and pulled on her boots.

"What's going on?!" I yelled as the house became chaotic. People were running around, shouting, and barking orders.

"Come on! We have to leave!" Remi said. I jumped up and put on my shoes. I left the jacket I had been wearing on the bed forgetting it was cold outside. We ran out of the room and headed to the stairs. Fire was creeping up the stairs. Frost and a black haired boy ran to their room.

"Fire! FIRE!" Remi yelled grabbing my hand and running back to our room. I helped her open the window. She helped me onto the roof and we walked to the edge. We jumped onto a lower part of the roof then braced as we jumped off that. We got up and sprinted into the forest. The other had already escaped so we were on our own. We ran until we couldn't anymore. We gasped for breath and Remi looked up at a tree.

"C'mon," She climbed onto the first branch and held her hand out. I gratefully took it and climbed up the tree with her. We huddled together to shield ourselves from the cold night air. I was scared, and I knew Remi was too.
