Chapter 1

Keith's pov

I was writing my English paper when I heard the telltale ding of a message on my phone. I rushed over to my bed where my phone was and grabbed it.

You have 1 new message.

I flopped down on my bed, English now forgotten, and opened the message. It was from my internet friend, Lance. We'd been friends for about 6 months now, but we hadn't met sadly. We tried coordinating something, but it always fell through.

LoverboyLance: hey keith! hows it going?
Keith_Kogane: hey lance. i was just finishing up some hw due tmrw. Hbu?
LoverboyLance: i just woke up. my mom woke me, coming into my room and yelling at me to be productive and that i shouldnt be asleep this late on a sunday :/
Keith_Kogane: nice going lol.

I smiled to myself as we continued to chat. Talking with Lance was always the highlight of my day. Over the few months that we've been talking, I've felt myself being drawn to him more and more. I liked him, to put it simply. I liked everything about him. The way he laughed, his beautiful ocean blue eyes, his messy bed head after he woke up, everything. There was a quiet knock on my door. I quickly threw my phone back onto the bed and grabbed my computer. I pretended to be doing homework.

"Come in." I said.

My older brother walked in. "Hey Keith, how's your homework coming along?"

I rolled my eyes. "Shiro, I'm not a little kid. I can do my homework without you checking up on me all the time."

Shiro crossed his arms. "I took a look at your grades again. They're slipping. I thought you said you were going to do better, Keith."

I sighed. "I'm trying Shiro. But I'm not going to get my work done with you bothering me all the time to get it done."

He sighed and took a step forward. "What are you working on now?"

"English."

"Keith, you were working on English over an hour ago. If you're struggling with it and need help-"

I cut him off. "Nope, I'm all good. The teacher just...gives out a lot of work."

He nodded, and I could tell he wasn't completely convinced, but he didn't want to argue right now.

"Ok, well, I'm making dinner soon. Oh, and Adam's coming over tonight."

I shrugged. "Cool, I get to be a third wheel again."

Shiro got the look on his face. The look that's split between being disappointed, concerned, and annoyed. It's the look that seemed only older siblings or parents could give.

"You won't be third wheeling, Acxa will be there."

I rolled my eyes again. "I was just kidding. Now could you please leave so I can focus on my homework?"

He nodded and soon I was alone again. When I was sure he was no longer outside the door, I grabbed my phone again.

LoverboyLance: yea, i wish we could meet and like,,hang out. we could have movie marathons and a bunch of other fun stuff!
LoverboyLance: i mean...unless u dont want to
LoverboyLance: keith?
LoverboyLance: buddy?
LoverboyLance: my man?
Keith_Kogane: hey lance, sorry about that, shiro came in my room and was lecturing me about hw again :/ but movie marathons sound great :)
LoverboyLance: good to see ur still alive. man, i really wish we could hang out irl
Keith_Kogane: me too :/
LoverboyLance: you could meet all of my friends! like pidge and hunk and allura. Oh, and my siblings too, like veronica and rachel
Keith_Kogane: yea, from what ive heard theyre pretty cool. and i could introduce u to romelle. also acxa
LoverboyLance: hell yea man. acxa is pretty hot too, so thats a bonus
Keith_Kogane: watch it, mcclain, thats my sister ur talking about. no way in hell id let u date her
LoverboyLance: i was just kidding man. besides, allura is the only one for me
Keith_Kogane: doesnt she have a bf?
LoverboyLance: ugh, dont remind me. lotor is soooo annoying...and totally getting in the way of mine and alluras relationship
Keith_Kogane: please, like she'd ever date a desperate boy like u anyway
LoverboyLance: hey! im not desperate!
Keith_Kogane: uh huh, thats why ur username is loverboylance...cuz ur not desperate at all
LoverboyLance: ok that was just mean
Keith_Kogane: :)

My door opened suddenly and Shiro walked in. I looked up from my phone. Standing behind him in the hallway was Adam.

"Don't you know how to knock?"

"I thought you were working on homework."

I sighed and sat up on my bed, now sitting cross legged. "I was, but I finished."

He raised an eyebrow. "Oh really?"

I nodded.

"Ok, well, dinner's ready."

I sighed and got up. I was still texting Lance. I hadn't told anyone in my family about Lance. I had told Romelle, but not anyone else.

Shiro was super protective of Acxa and I, and had been ever since our dad died, and our mom abandoned us. And even though Acxa was my twin and I told her everything, she could tell Shiro and then he would get upset.

I followed them downstairs and sat down next to Acxa. They made idle conversation as we all ate. I sat in silence. Any time I could, I would respond to Lance. Shiro didn't like when we had our phones out at the table, so I had to be careful. Acxa nudged me, and I looked up.

"Idiot, Shiro's trying to talk to you."

I turned my gaze to them. "What?"

Shiro shook his head. "Seriously Keith, you don't need to always be looking at your phone. Now, we've got something we want to tell you guys."

I raised an eyebrow. "Ok...then just say it."

Shiro took a deep breath, and Adam spoke up. "I'm moving in. Takashi and I figured it was best, so now I could help out with you guys and I could help him around the house."

I nodded. "Ok. I figured that was going to happen soon. I mean, you already basically live here."

Adam and Shiro smiled. Acxa just shrugged.

"Alright cool. Just means I'm surrounded by more gays."

We all laughed. Acxa and I took our dishes and then went up to our rooms again. I continued talking to Lance until around 3 in the morning.
LoverboyLance: ok keith, im going to head to bed. ive got school tmrw and im already going to be tried af, pidge and hunk r gonna worry, ill talk to u tmrw tho
Keith_Kogane: lol, ok, gn
LoverboyLance: gn keith

I put my phone down on the table next to my bed and climbed in, shutting off the light. I slowly drifted off to sleep, dreading school the next day.

ok then! 1st chapter done! i have a few already written, so i'll try and keep up a somewhat consistent upload schedule until i run out of pre written chapters or until it's done :)
