Keith's pov

I walked up to Romelle's door, taking a deep breath before giving a knock.

"Romy? You in there?"

There was a little bit of shuffling, and a few moments later the door opened.

"Hey Keith. What's up?"

I walked into her room, taking a seat on her bed.

"I need to talk to you. You got a moment?"

She nodded, closing the door and joining me on her bed. "What do you need Keith?"

I took a deep breath, preparing myself for what I was about to say. I had spent hours trying to figure out how to phrase it.

"Well...it's about Lance..."

Her eyebrows furrowed slightly. "What about him? He didn't do anything stupid again, did he?"

I shook my head. "No. I just...this is harder to say than I thought it would be. I don't know why though."

She put her hand on mine, and gave me a supporting smile.

Yet again, I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. "Lance and I are together. I mean...he's my boyfriend."

She jumped up. "Are you serious? He's your boyfriend?" She practically yelled.

"Shh. We're not telling a bunch of people. Only you and probably Pidge. Ok? Please, don't tell anyone. And please, don't go talking about it with Pidge until we tell you that she knows."

She nodded, face breaking into a huge grin. She wrapped her arms around me.

"I'm so happy for you guys. And I'm honored that you chose me as one of the people you were telling first."

I smiled. "Thanks Romelle, it means a lot. And uh, we've actually been going out for a few months. We didn't want to tell anyone because we just wanted to keep it to ourselves. But we're going to start, slowly. Maybe. I don't know. All I know is I want to be with him. I don't care how. I...I love him, Romy." I choked out.

There was a moment of silence. Then her grin grew even bigger. She threw her arms around me.

"Awe. This is too cute! Have you guys said that to each other yet?"

I shook my head viciously. "It took a lot for me to say that out loud. I can't tell him yet. I mean, what if he doesn't say it back? What if he thinks we're moving too fast? I mean, we've only been dating for a few months."

She shook her head, smile still plastered to her face. "Keith, you may have only been dating for a few months, but you've known each other for how long? Almost two years now, right?"

I nodded.

"Alright, so it's not like you don't know anything about each other going around saying 'I love you.' Keith, you can say it whenever it feels right for you. I was only asking."

I managed a smile. "Thanks. And thank you for not making a huge deal out of us going out. I don't want everyone to know yet. I don't think Lance does either."

My phone started ringing. I picked it up.

"Speak of the devil." I commented, before picking it up.

"Hey Lance, what's up?"

"Hey, did you tell Romelle yet?"

"Yeah, I actually just told her. Did you tell Pidge?"

"Uh, about that. Um, I ended up telling Ronnie instead. Don't worry about Axca, she promised to keep it a secret from everyone, including her."

I chuckled. "That's fine. As long as she doesn't. But what happened that made you decide to tell Veronica instead of Pidge?"

"Uh, well, she's the sibling I'm closest with, and I wanted to tell someone in my family. Romelle is basically like your sister, seeing as she's like living with you guys now and stuff. I just wanted to let someone in my family know and-"

"Woah, Lance, it's ok. I was only teasing. It's fine that you told Veronica. I really don't mind."

He breathed a sigh of relief. "Thanks Keith. Oh! Ronnie's calling me. I'll talk to you later?"

"Yeah. Talk to you later, Loverboy."

"Bye Samurai."

"I told you to stop calling me that."

"Not gonna happen...Samurai. Anyways, Veronica's starting to get impatient. I'll talk to you later!"

He hung up and I threw the phone on the bed.

"Wanna go for some ice cream?"

I nodded. "That sounds great. Let's go."

Lance's pov

I hung up and walked to the living room where Veronica was sitting.

"So, I want to get this straight." She said.

I nodded, sitting across from her on the couch.

"Ok, so you and Keith have been dating for a few months? But didn't want to tell anyone until now, but you decided on only telling Romelle and I?"

I nodded, confused about why she was asking me. "And, you said you love him? But you guys haven't said that to each other. And you're worried about telling Keith you love him because...?"

I sighed. "Because, I know he has a...rough history with people. He's very closed off. The only reason he and I became friends was because he drunk texted me one night. He told me about his dad dying in a car crash, but even before that, his mother was very distant, barely home. His dad took care of him and his siblings. After his dad died, she abandoned them. Then there was James, which was a toxic relationship. Before we stopped talking, he told me about how James had started saying 'I love you' to him, and he felt so much pressure to say it back. He explained about how those three words are hard for him to say to people. Not to James, to me. But I don't want to put any pressure on him to say it back. But at the same time I want nothing more but to tell him."

She nodded. "Ok. I'm sorry Lance. I'm sure you'll figure this whole thing out. I believe you."

She wrapped her arms around me. "Thanks Ronnie. For keeping our secret."

"Of course Lance. I just wanted to know everything I could. I want to help in any way I can."

I smiled. "Seriously, thank you."

There was a knock at the door. I opened the door, and almost slammed the door closed again.

There, standing on my porch, was James Griffin.
