    ALLIE

Hey, I'm Allie, a high schooler.

Well, technically not yet. It's July already, and I'm exhausted from the firework show yesterday. Guess what else is cool about the Fourth of July? It makes your parents have to give you treats and good food while you lounge on picnic blankets with your friend.

This year, I couldn't do that because Gwen is in New York city. That meant I had to sit with my brother, Alec, and his friend (aka the most popular kid in the grade, Cole Greene). I can't say it was like giggling and gossiping with Gwen, the three Gs, but it was well.

Once this month is over, I'm being whipped to what I assume will be a dreadful year in high school. I'll be starting it all over, and Cole's going to be there. He's the one that tossed a note at my head a few years ago- but let's not talk about that.

I'm lounging on my couch, petting my dog, Oreo. He's fluffy and a creamy white color, like an oreo, with purposeful streaks of black here and there. SO CUTE!

"Hey, Allie?" Alec.

"What?" Me.

"Can you come over here real quick?" Alec, again.

"Fine." I tiredly picked myself off the couch as Oreo struggled to regain his balance. Eventually I picked him up, planted a warm kiss on top of his head, and carried him into the back room.

"Yeah?" Alec looked confused as he pointed at his model. "It needs a complete renovation, and you're the best woman for the job. If you come to the rally, too, maybe you can meet your soulmate. Boys will be flirting all over you."

"Is that what's in it for me?"

Sighing, I agreed and got to work, placing Oreo somewhere where he wouldn't bother us and wouldn't be affected by the sounds of us making a car to race in an actual rally, where mostly boys were. The only girls would be the teachers, and they're more like women.

If Gwen were here, it would be so much easier, I thought to myself. She always found a way to get boys out of flirting with me by taking them to flirt with her instead. It was such a genius system, it worked for the both of us. The thought made me laugh out loud, but of course I couldn't even hear myself, the sound of our construction too loud to speak until we were finished or needed a break.

When all was done, we stepped back to admire it.

So, that's how I spent my evening.
