Allie's life has been flipped upside down.
She's never been a big fan of change, but as she starts her dreaded first year of high school, it's feeling like a friend- or, rather, an enemy that she completely loathes.
Gwen, her best friend, use...
Allie and I started off by picking out my dress, and a lot of other accessories. It was actually pretty fun.
"Hey, what dress do you want?" Allie asked me. I shrugged. "You know, maybe it's time for a snack break." Allie rolled her eyes and me and I lifted my hands in defense.
For the past few days, I'd been stressing the dance, mainly because of Alec and I's contract. But our one-day lasting contract- we'd tore it. You know what was funny? It only lasted for a few seconds, the whole hand in pocket thing. So, um, that was sort of awkward, but whatever.
We went to Forever 16, even though I complained that I wasn't 16 yet. She didn't really care. She told me that since I was only 2 years away, it was fine. I just rolled my eyes at her, pretending to be exasperated.
I picked out a cute, lacy dress. I thought the color looked good on me, but Allie shook her head. "Look, I'm not really in the shopping mood, so can we do this tomorrow?"
Allie looked at me with disapproval. "No." She said with finality.

After that, I tried on a billion dresses, but none of them were as good as the first pink one. Allie complained that lace looked bad, but I disagreed. After that, we went to find some light makeup to match my outfit. We picked out a well match after 24 samples of lipstick and 56 samples of eyeshadow and blush.
"Is it time for the lunch break now?" I asked, and Allie nodded. If she hadn't, I think I would've done the opposite of exploding. Because exploding happens when you're full, and I wasn't full- you know, whatever.
We bought shakes, hamburgers, and fries. After we ate, I felt pretty satisfied, but I knew Allie all too well. Of course, we had to go on.
We picked out a beautiful crystal necklace and shoes. I wondered if it made Allie feel weird, like the fact about shopping for me. Me, who had stolen her date. Who had said yes in the first place. I studied her face. But maybe it was a nice distraction, to keep her mind away from thinking about it. Should I, too?
After picking out these cute new shoes, we'd hit a bankrupt. I promised to meet her at one exact spot at the mall the next day to do more.
So, that was why I was standing in the mirror in one of my casual outfits. After we'd finished buying everything for my outfit, we were finally done. Phew. We decided to try it on at Allie's place. There was a problem with mine: boys. There was a problem with Allie's: Cole. But that didn't matter, because she could lock her door without getting in trouble and use an excuse. My door didn't even lock in the first place, and if it did, my brothers could probably chew through it anyway.
After we tried it on, we decided that was a wrap and she cooked us some mug cakes. Since we did nothing but watch movies at her house, after our snack we headed back to mine to play with Bailey, my dog, and my little brothers.
She left after a while, but I didn't mind since I still had to do chores. I took a deep breath. I wondered if Alec had asked anyone. Was it weird? I couldn't help it. I called Allie.
"I'm literally still walking home, Gwen. Why can't it wait?"
"Hmph. Doesn't matter. Anyway, you're a slow walker."
"Oh my- okay, before I explode, what are you trying to ask me?"
"Has Alec asked anyone, and do you have a date, and is being with me making you feel weird?" I blurted, wincing right after, scared at what she might say, if she said anything at all. What if she just plain hung up on me? Ugh. I needed to stop worrying about that kind of thing.
"Um, he hasn't, and I might, and not really."
"Those aren't actual answers, Allie!" I protested. She didn't respond, so I sighed. "Whatever. Do as you please."
