god you'd think I'd write something that doesn't involve one of the characters being a killer

Magnus POV

I laid on my bed, a small smile gracing my features. My soulmate was truly amazing. I had hummed them a little song, something rather insignificant, but instead of being annoyed and singing something ridiculous like the chicken dance or a song that ended with the singer being sent to an untimely death, they sang something sweet. You Are My Sunshine. God, I couldn't wait to meet them. This was our way of communicating.

Most found soulmates through little names of wrists or mismatched eyes, but whenever we sang something, our soulmate would sing it too. I glanced over to my clock. It was late, very late, but I couldn't fall asleep. My soulmate was out there, singing me little songs.

——

A slam of the door alerted me of an intruder. It was midnight. I must have fallen asleep with meaning to. A voice rang out.

"Come out! Come on, my job is hard enough as it is, I just want to get this one murder out of the way." Murder? I dived into the closet, clutching a pair of scissors in my hands. I heard their footsteps plunk throughout the halls, searching. Suddenly, the unwanted visitor started  singing.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star." I subconsciously started singing along, our voices intertwining in sync. I realized my mistake too late.

"How I wonder what you are..?" They trailed off, following my voice.

"Up above the world so high." My heart was now pounding fiercely. Their shadow flashed through the shuttered doors of the closet.

"Like a diamond in the sky." They pulled the door open suddenly, and I came tumbling out. But, before I could hit the ground, his arms wrapped around my waist rather tightly, (not that I minded), and stared straight into my eyes. He had a knife still in his hands, something engraved on the handle. Alex. How fitting.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are." We sing, almost at a whisper, our lips brushing together. His arm on the base of my back pushed me forward just enough to that our lips met.

"Guess I can't kill this one." He muttered against my lips, a smile making its way into another kiss.
