Fence: So let me get this right. Though you may have a theory about who may've killed my father, do you or do you not believe a combination of the evidence and my subsequent actions warranted the term of hospitalization I received?
Sam: I emphatically do not. Fence, ever since I began working for the Courier, the journalist inside of me has wanted to bring closure to a lot of people the police have yet to be able to. And the one person who very well may have held the key to it all, his doctors, city bureaucrats and those at his own company have fought tirelessly to keep locked away.
Fence: And let me guess. You believe Ethan Whatever-His-Name may have had something to do with my extended absence?
Sam: Quite frankly, Fence? I don't know what to believe. What I do know is that you haven't been home twenty-four hours and already my editor has me running around town chasing leads about Ethan Jackson's suicide and a body found over off Leforge.
Fence: Wait a minute. The CEO of Price Investments killed himself?
Sam: No, Fence. One of your employees, a man by the name of Ethan Jackson, took a gun and blew his brains out all over the wallpaper of your corporate office.
Fence: My god. When? Was anyone else hurt?
Sam: When? This afternoon and no, no one else was injured. As soon as I received the news I hurried over to Y.P.D. to see if Chief Wallace would comment on the investigation but because of the bad publicity he's received for remarks I quoted him as previously saying, apparently he's upset and refusing to return my calls.
Fence: I see. Thus, the reason why you didn’t want to postpone tonight. Because you figured I may know something about this Ethan Jackson that would explain why today of all days he would want to kill himself. Correct?
Sam: Precisely. Why wait for Chief Wallace to get back with me when I could easily interrogate my uncle and his boss for answers.
Fence: But I don't see how anything I could tell you about an employee I've never met could possibly be of any help. As you can imagine I really don't know anything.
Sam: And that's fine. There are still other sources I have yet to follow-up with. As a matter of fact, that's not exactly what I wanted your thoughts on anyhow.
Fence: Oh, it isn't?
Sam: Don't get me wrong, of course it's a priority. Just not my number one.
Fence: And what might I ask would be the first?
Sam: Well. I know it's your first day out and all, but I'm kind of wondering if you're up to take a ride tomorrow morning.
Fence: A ride? A ride where?
Sam: St. Joe's.
Fence: St. Joe's as in the hospital?
Sam: Yes, the hospital. I have a source that works in the morgue and swears I'm gonna wanna have a look at a body they received today.
Fence: Someone you know?
Sam: I don't think so. Work related. It's the remains of a mutilated corpse Y.P.D. recovered this morning.
Fence: Say no more. What time will you be here?
