To Jack, the rest of the day went by like a blur, he still felt terrible so that probably contributed.
When he finally got home he opened his computer and emailed Bella, she was always comforting and after today he just needed to talk to someone.
Jack: Hey Bella, how was the rest of your day
After about 10 minutes she replied
Bella: Not bad, how about yours?
Usually he tried to down-play how he was feeling, depressed -> sad, fine -> not fine, but today he was too tired to be pleasant.
Jack: Bad, Max smiled at me.
Bella: Max smiled at you? That's great!
Bella had found out about Jack's feelings for Max a while ago.
Jack: Of course but it was completely out of character in relation to me.
Bella: But maybe things are getting better between you two. :)
He thought for a moment but dismissed it, anytime they got remotely close, it went away almost immediatly, like when it started: He went to her house and they talked until dawn and he thought it was great, she had heard things that he had never told anyone and vice versa but come Monday, she introduced the venom that had plagued his life.
He decided to leave the conversation there, he knew that when he talked about Max for too long he started to talk about everything else and he couldn't do that to Bella.
He looked over old conversations between Max and him
Max: You're a horrible dork!
Jack: Dork? Yes. Horrible?
Max: A horrible dork. A big dork
Jack: Yeah, 100% dork.
Max: Agreed.
Jack: Actually, 99% dork, 1% caring person.
He forgot, he used to be a nice person instead of the trainwreck he had become.
Max: Well I like both parts.
It crushed him reading over that last message, she used to be his best friend and the one person he could tell anything to. He sat on his bed, crying and screaming internally, asking himself why she was like this, why she always came close and then ran away, like a cat with yarn. He always asked himself the same questions at night. He could never find an answer.
