PART 1

...

A NEW DAY...

Carlos speed-walked all the way to his next class. All morning, he had tried avoiding his friends from questioning him about his date with Miss Mad Hatter. It's not that it went bad, in fact-he thought it went well when he finally realized that she wasn't planning on making him disappear. He saw that behind Margery's insane personality, she was just like any other kid on isle-misunderstood. She opened up to him and he didn't know why. Maybe she trusts him. Carlos was so distracted by his thoughts that he didn't see Jay sneaking up behind him.

Jay pushed him into an empty classroom where Mal and Evie were already in.

"Jay, let me go!" Carlos demands and struggles to get out of the headlock he was in. Jay did let him go and pushes him forward.

"Geez, calm down." Jay says in defense. Carlos straightens out his clothes and look at his friends.

"What's up, you guys? I'm going to be late for class." Carlos says. Mal waves her hand that his comment.

"That can wait. You've been avoiding us. Why? And what happened on your date?" Mal questions. Carlos avoids eye contact.

"I-I wasn't avoiding you. Why would I be avoiding you?"

"I don't know. You tell them us, Carlos." Jay says with his arms crossed. Carlos scoffs.

"I'm not, that's crazy!" Carlos exclaims.

"Well, speaking of crazy—what happened on your date?" Evie asks. Carlos looks at his friends one by one.

"Nothing! Nothing happened. We ate, talked and went for a swim." Carlos lists.

"Anything else?" Evie asks, not believe it to be just that. She's known Carlos personally the longest, she could tell if he was lying. And he is a bad liar.

"No!" Carlos exclaims immediately. Mal looks at him suspiciously.

"Really now?" Mal says slowly and walks closer to him as if he was prey. Carlos was starting to crack under pressure.

"I...may have...kinda... kissed her?" Carlos says. His three friends' jaws dropped.

"WHAT?" The three yelled. Carlos looks down.

"It's no big deal, guys." Carlos mutters.

"Well, what did she do after?" Jay asks. From the looks of Carlos, Mad Margery didn't attack him for it.

"Nothing. Literally-she packed up everything and we walked back to the school in silence. I haven't seen or spoke to her since." Carlos huffs. What did he do wrong? Was he a bad kisser? Did Margery feel ok? This question made him worry for this girl that he barely knows.

"Alright, you have to tell us what happened." Mal says and sits down on one of the desks. Evie and Jay follow along. Carlos point towards the outside.

"But what about-"

"Now!"

"Alright, damn!" Carlos exclaims in annoyance. He set his bag down and sat on the nearest desk.

"Well, it went like this..."

FLASHBACK...

"Strawberry shortcake?" Margery offers while holding a piece out. An hour or maybe two pass by and they went through many sandwiches, LOTS OF TEA, now it was dessert. Like the rest of the food, Carlos looks at it with caution and Margery rolls her eyes. "Don't worry, it doesn't have whatever your friends told you, in it. Ben has these all the time. They are really quite good."

"Ben?" Carlos asks in shock and takes the piece of cake from her fingers. Margery licks away the frosting on her fingers and nods.

"Yes, "Ben". I have a tea with him every other week. It's his way of watching over me. I assumed he told Mal and Mal told you." Margery says brushing her hands clean of crumbs.

"No." Carlos made a mental note about that. He eat the piece of cake and his eyes widen.

It wasn't a frightening look, but the way he was the first time he tasted chocolate. It was undoubtedly delicious. The strawberry pieces embedded in the spongy yellow cake. Margery held out a plate with seven more cakes on it and Carlos took one from it.

He finishes it quickly as Margery slowly ate own.

"So, did you and Ben, like, date or something?" Carlos asks before taking a sip of his sweet tea.

"No, his parents are just my kidnappers." Margery says. Carlos nearly chokes when coughing up the tea because of his new information

"What?!" He asks and coughs uncontrollably.

"Hard to believe that not everyone in Auradon is as good as they seem?" Margery asks in a teasing tone. He looks down. Carlos was sad and being sad made him more hungry. When he was about to reach for another cake, Margery grabs his hand to stop him.

"How about a swim?" Margery suggests out of nowhere. She motions to the water that was just a few yards away from them. Carlos looks down and nods.

"Wait! Shouldn't you wait, like, a few minutes to go swimming after eating?" Carlos asks. He watches as Margery kicks her shoes off and grabs the towel from her basket.

"That's the thing about Wonderland food, Carlos. You can eat and eat and eat and not have to worry about gaining weight or feeling in danger in the water. Quite the opposite actually."

"What do you mean?" Carlos asks as he to is removing his shoes.

"You'll see..." Margery says mysteriously "That doesn't mean you shouldn't watch out for what you eat. What I did to Mal and Evie, I knew what I was doing, I make the food after all."

Carlos didn't say anything. Only watches as Margery walks towards the water and removes her shirt to reveal a lavender bikini top. She walks into the water without a second thought. Carlos hurries over and did the same with only his swim trunks on. He dipped a foot in and jumps back with a squeal.

"It's cold!" Carlos shouts. Margery let's out a laugh. It was an innocent one, not like the others she does. And her smile was real and not at all evil.

"Don't be a scaredy cat." Margery calls and flouts in the water.

"I'm not a scaredy cat." Carlos claims before deciding to climb onto a large rock and jump from it and into the water. The splash was large enough to soak Margery. When Carlos surfaces, he caught Margery's murderous look. He was ready to jump out of the water and run when Margery splashes him with water.

"Two can play that game." Carlos says before retaliating. He splashed back and starting a little war between the couple. Margery swim forward and dunk Carlos' head under the water and held it there. She decided to go under the water too and went in almost immediately. She saw the panic in her date's eyes and let his head go.

Carlos was ready to resurface but Margery grabs his hand and stops him. Carlos watches as Margery started to open her mouth, leaving the air bubbles out. He saw that she didn't need them, she was able to breathe... under water. Margery points at Carlos to do the same. Hesitate, Carlos slowly opens his mouth to release the air bubbles. To his surprise, he was also breathing under water. It put a smile on his face and they continued to swim under.
