Davis stood at the door to the lab still confused about what was happening. His father was still alive in England? In another time? It seemed crazy, but Davis knew that his father wouldn't lie. He scanned the key card and the door slowly squeeks open, air rushing in. This was the first time the door had been opened in about 5 years.
As he slowly walked in the lights flickered to life showing the destruction inside. It looked as if an explosion of some sort had gone off. The burn marks that covered the room over by a desk that had been destroyed and burned indicated the explosion. The obvious rat infestation didn't help either. The air vents must have allowed air in but not the rats. The rats must've been lab rats for experiments that had got loose after Davis' father disappeared. There were actually not any rat skeletons anywhere, weird. There was a bunch of sticks and twigs. How could the rats gotten the supplies to make it? He thought to himself
As Davis walked in all the rats ran to where the destroyed table was and disappeared. As Davis looked around for Ada, he could see where the rats hadn't gotten to was actually quite clean still except for the dust that built up over the last 5 years. Davis rounded a corner of the lab. There, hung Ada, she was much more that just an AI on a screen. She had a body. Not human like at all though. She hung from the ceiling no arms, no legs. She consisted of a long curved like figure almost the shape of a banana and her head was spherical with what seemed like a single eye. It was flashing red. She must've been in sleep mode. Did she even still work? Davis approaches her and looks for a power switch. There was one, but it was high up and he couldn't reach it. Jumping up to flip the switch he successfully flips it on.
"Yes! First tr- GAH!" His victory was short lived as he lands on some rat droppings and slips falling in his face.
"Owww..." He groans before sitting up and looking at the robot. The eye stops flashing and flickers yellow a few times before going out. The sounds of hydraulics and gears starting up fill the room the robot slow brought itself out of its slumber. And seemed to keep itself up and seemed to look around.
"Systems startup complete. Initiating AI startup." A robotic female voice says. After a few seconds pass it continues" AI startup complete....H..huh? AHH I CAN'T SEE! I CAN'T SEE!" The robot yelled in a panic before starting to swing around and hits Davis knocking him back to the ground.
"OW HEY WATCH IT!" Davis yelled at the robot and covered his nose. He sits back up and scoots back. The impact had given Davis a bloody nose.
"HUH?! WHO'S THERE!? YOUR NOT JACOB!" The robot yelled in terror. Jacob was Davis' father's name.
"NO BUT I'M HIS SON!" Davis yelled.
"Wait Davis? Oh my god I'm so sorry! Did I hurt you?! I heard a thud!" The robot said sounding even more panicked.
"Yeah I'm fine... Just a bloody nose...." Davis said slowly standing up and looking around for a tissue. After finding one and putting it in his nose to stop the bleeding he looks at the robot" Your Ada correct?" He asked. His voice was a bit weird because of the tissue.
"Yes I am. I'm Ada or Automatic Dynamic Atomatrom. I have a question for you now. How did you get down here? Where's your father?" Ada asked.
"Wait so you don't know what happened either?" Davis asked
"I have no memories of what you mean" Ada said
"Damn.... Hmm... do the numbers 41.12.250 mean anything to you?" Davis asked
"Not that I can recall...oh wait it a program code that your father left inside me. Would you like me to run it?" Ada asked.
"Yes please do." Davis said
"Okay" Ada said and after an audio recording starts. My father's voice fills the room.
"If you're hearing this that means there has been an accident with the PITT device and I have been Transported somewhere in time. Hopefully in the past. I mean you won't be hearing this if I went into the future. Anyways Davis that letter I sent you. It has the place and year I was transported to. You need to go there. Ada the second PITT device Finish it, give it to Davis he needs to come to the time and place I'm at." The recording says.
"Crap...." Davis said under his breath.
"What is it Davis?' Ada asked
"The letter has the place but the year is smeared..." He grumpes."What?! NO!" Ada says panicked
The audio recording continues" Davis. You need to get to me. The fabric of our species rests in the balance of your hands. Hur..." The audio recording cuts out.
"Oh my god it's coming back to me. The first device it exploded and took your father away. He created a program and told me to use it if something like this ever happens. The program must have locked away the memories and shut me down." Ada said
"Hm that would make sense...He wouldn't want you to worry... he probably had a plan if something happened." Davis said after thinking about it.
"We need to listen to your father Davis. But I can't help you yet. It appears there is something wrong with my Optical sensor and I can't see you will need to repair it." Ada says
"Wait me? I can't I don't know the first thing about robots." Davis said slightly panicked
"Okay I'll walk you through it" Ada responds
"Fine... for dad.." Davis said reluctantly
"Okay first there is a tool kit on the desk over there by my Core Processing Unit. Go grab it and bring it here." Ada says
Davis walked over to the CPU. The CPU was a giant box about the size of a small car. It was huge for it's time. These days the entire internet is run on a small chip the size of a fingernail. Why was this so big Davis thought to himself, but didn't look too far into it. He saw the bag of tools and picks it up and walk over to Ada and opens it sitting in front of her.
"Okay I got the tools. What do I do now?" He asked starting to get interested
"That tone, Davis are you excited to fix my optic sensor?" She said with a slight snotty tone.
"What that's ridiculous!" He crossed his arms and pouted a bit" Okay maybe a little.."
"Is that a wrong thing? To be interested in working on a robot?" She asked questiongly
"What? No! It's not a wrong... it's just that I've never done this and I'm kind of excited to learn something new" He said quietly
"Well it's great to learn something new." Ada said. Having no actual face or mouth she couldn't smile, but for some reason Davis could somehow just see her smile kindly down at him." So Davis first you need to get out the allen wrench, on the optic sensor there are a fewscrews. Take them out." Davis did as she said and took out the allen wrench and unscrewed the five screws. "Okay I can detect it's off now it should come off still connected to some wires insi-"
"Oh here's the problem, the internal lens is shattered. It's as simple as replacing it." He said and pulls out the lens and removes the wires from the back. "I remember seeing another somewhere in here" Davis got up and walked around the corner and after a minute or two returns and sits in front of Ada
"Hey don't inter-" Davis plugs in the wires to the new lens and the lens lights up white "Woaaah..Okay...I guess it was that simple." Ada says and Davis screws the lens back into place. After he screws it in the lens goes in and out of the sphere a few times then a few half sheet of paper sized metal sheets cover the eye then reveal it almost like a circular eyelid. It was used to focus on something. Davis smiles then yawns.
"Davis get some sleep. I'll get everything set up for tomorrow." Ada said in an almost motherly tone.
"But... Fine..." Davis said before slowly standing up and heading out of the basement and to his room.
