the two girls sat as ricky started to tune his guitar. as much as leighton wanted to watch his moves, she just stared at his mesmerizing face.

the talented boy started singing 'when there was me and you' and gina playfully swayed as leighton couldn't help but continue staring. the way ricky's face crinkled as he sang the notes... a smile appeared on leighton's face as she stood up to be in front of him.

gina wipes a fake tear from her eye and watched how ricky was singing to leighton. she didn't know them for that long, but getting to have friends at a new school was amazing. even if it seemed she was a third wheel, they included her more than anyone else.

ricky briefly stopped singing and leaned down to quickly kiss leighton's lips. he started up again and walked around her, turning to walk backwards around the room, only focused on her. leighton quickly walked to gina and grabbed her hand to playfully turn and dance with her to the song.

it wasn't a love song or a song to dance to, but the air felt loose and happy. leighton more so loved to hear ricky's acoustic voice, enjoying the time with her new friend as well.

ricky just laughed and sat down, watching the girls be crazy. his attention mainly on leighton's smile as she and gina came to an end and sat back by ricky. he finished up the song after a few moments. none of the three teens had seen nini watching them and leave once she realized leighton and ricky had something going on.

"so yeah. that was it." ricky said as both girls just looked at him. "the talent!" "oh my god!" they both said causing ricky to laugh. "i felt like i was in a movie, with you guys being all mushy. wow that was great ricky." gina said and leighton nodded excitedly.

"you gotta teach me the cords all over again because i was too distracted by you." leighton said. "when he teaches you how to play then you can teach me. okay?" gina said.

leighton laughed and they all stood up from the props. "you are seriously good at like everything else. i think i'm shocked you don't know how to play guitar, miss superstar." leighton said while accidentally rhyming.

"what's everything else?" the girl asked and leighton and ricky started to name things, "seriously g, like acting." leighton started. "dancing." "throwing drinks on people!" "being super cool and nice. at least to us." they said.

"wow i really was hoping over the weekend you both would forget that." gina laughed. "well it's hard to forget such a great memory when great things happened that night." leighton answered and ricky couldn't help but agree.

"on a serious note. should we be doing something?" ricky asked slightly dimming the mood. "like to help miss jenn?" leighton asked and gina nodded. "a letter writing campaign?" ricky asked.

leighton said, "it's just one night. how can we possibly do something in one night?" the three teens felt a little defeated. "yeah. i don't know.." ricky said, both girls knowing he was scared of the musical stopping after the work he put in.

after that, ricky and leighton headed home together as gina's parent came to pick her up. ricky and leighton sat in her room, him watching her play guitar. she wasn't bad, but she wanted to learn from ricky.

he saw her struggle with a few things so he became a cliché and wrapped his arms around her. he showed her how to properly strum the guitar and she got the hang of it.

ricky enjoyed this time together. "you sure you don't know how to play? i barely helped you and you got it down." he asked. leighton laughed and bit her lip as she looked at him. ricky's heart rate sped up as he looked back at her.

"maybe i just wanted to have your arms around me. what can i say? i'm a sucker for you." the girl laughed and ricky shook his head at her.

"okay try from the beginning! i wanna see how you use your fingers." ricky said and leighton mumbled 'so do i', quickly glancing to see if he heard and thankfully he didn't. she shook her head, wanting to have the thought erased from her mind as soon as possible.

the girl lightly started to play the tune to 'when there was me and you' she had it down and had the basics covered. ricky happily watched as she played it more than halfway through before stopping.

he clapped slowly and she laughed at the way he was pretending to be incredibly proud. "you are such a dork!" she shouted at him. "yeah, but i think i'm your dork?" he said questioning. "no. you haven't asked me to be yours and you said we can take it slow. is this a change of mind?" the girl teased lightly as she stood from the bed to set the guitar on the desk.

she walks over to ricky and held his face in her hands as he sat at the edge of her bed. her body fitting in between his legs and he held her tightly, scared she would slip away if he didn't and put on a thinking face. "you are right about the change of mind and status of us." he spoke as their faces were very close together. leighton smiled and leaned in to kiss the boy.

both of them letting air from their noses. once they pulled away ricky tried to lean in again, but leighton saw her phone light up multiple times. she pulled away and ricky pouted.

"it's big red, he texted us fifteen minutes ago and asked if we can go over." she said reading the messages. ricky sighed and stood up and reached for her hand. he didn't get to ask her to be his girlfriend yet, but maybe it was fate to not do it at that moment... or any moment.

they eventually left leighton's house and went to big red's.

they arrived at their friend's house and sat around talking about the musical and what was going on. "it's weird not being at rehearsal." ricky said as he sat across from big red. messing with his guitar. leighton was sprawled on a bean bag that was next to ricky's chair. her thoughts were wild as she tried to figure out what to do.

"how stupid is that?" ricky scoffed, the feelings creeping back on him. "what if we just did the show without her?" big red asked. "no, you saw how it went today. there's no way we can pull it off. jeez, i hate to be the one to say that." leighton spoke still laid out.

ricky leaned down to poke at her exposed stomach and she quickly covered it with her hands. "we couldn't even take the picture this morning without her. no offense." ricky spoke again. remembering how his two friends were trying their best. big red agreed. they heard the doorbell ring and the door opening. leighton sat up at the fact someone just walked in the house.

"down here, kaden!" big red said. three people came down the stairs instead. "what's up guys?" ricky asked and leighton waved a little confused. "well you guys didn't text you were coming, you just showed up. not a bad thing of course but, i texted some other peeps." big red explained to his best friends.

"wanted some company tonight." he continued only for the doorbell to go off again and the door to open. "it's open?" big red now said confused.

ashlyn emerged from the stairs and ricky and leighton stood up. "how many people are coming?" ricky asked, leighton made a comment, "so many peeps." big red said that should be it. it wasn't.

"actually give it a minute." ashlyn said as more footsteps can be heard and voices started to become louder as people walked into the room. leighton went closer to ricky as she noticed the room getting filled fast.
