On that particular day, there was no doubt that everything looked truly perfect.

There wasn't a single fault amongst the extensive plans and no thoughts had been overlooked - it was clear to see the attention to detail in every aspect of the wedding, from the venue to the colour scheme. Even the guests were carefully handpicked; not a single person was invited out of necessity or out of any sentiments of guilt. It was perhaps the reason that everyone was smiling so weightlessly, consumed by the happiness of matrimony. The celebration of two individuals becoming one was rarely a sad affair.

Lance was very impressed.

He stood at the back of the glass room, watching the guests chat happily and exchange greetings from the top of some stone steps that would eventually lead him straight down to the alter. He smiled as his mind floated between thoughts. Out of all of the family weddings he'd been invited to, he had never been to one quite as beautiful as where he was stood in that moment. The countless flowers and shades of luscious greens were like nothing he'd ever seen.

It must've been Keith's idea to get married at a botanical garden, he thought with a smile. And judging from the success of the ceremony, it must've been the efforts of the other groom to plan the rest.

Lance could see it all from his elevated position. With a glass of red wine in one hand, he watched the chatter of family and friends with a deep feeling of numbness in his chest. He had always been better with people from a distance, where he could watch the world go by without drowning in its motion. It was a reality that he had no choice but to adapt to, but he dreaded to admit that he was used to it.

Although through the array of greens and black and white suits, red was the only colour which he could see. Red was the colour of passion, of fire and of love; a colour which Lance had been running from his whole life. From where he stood, he could see his best friend Hunk mingling with the happy strangers with his arm around his girlfriend's waist. The way that their eyes met when they smiled at each other made Lance's heart melt every time, and he was reminded of the joys of partnership and love. He smiled sadly down at the red ribbon connecting them.

From all around the room, red ribbons danced and twirled from person to person. The string was the first thing Lance noticed about everyone he met, for it was hard to ignore. From his distance he could admire the connected and the disconnected - who had found their one true soulmate and those who hadn't finished their journey into finding them.

He glanced down at his own hand, admiring the red ribbon that was gently tied to his pinkie finger. He could barely feel it, but he knew the feeling was greater for him than anyone else. From a young age, his mother had realised the rare gift that her son had; the ability to see and manipulate the red ribbons of fate that connected one to their soulmate. It was no secret that soulmates existed, in fact some people would spend their whole lives trying to find their perfect partner. When their partner had found them and their hands touched, the ribbon connecting them would glow a warm red for just a moment before turning invisible one again. Invisible for everyone but Lance.

"Lance," He heard a soft voice from behind him, "I think I'm ready now."

He turned around to see Keith, the beautiful groom in his black and white tuxedo. Lance offered him the brightest smile he could manage, nodding his head, "Ok Keith, if it's what you really want."

Lance followed Keith into another room where Lotor stood in his complementary tuxedo, smiling lovingly at the shorter groom, "Thank you so much for doing this Lance, we really can't explain how much this means."

Lance only smiled and shook his head, "Don't sweat it, I'm sure your soulmates will understand."

He held a pair of silver scissors and approached Keith, holding the string which hung loosely from his finger. Lance had sworn to himself never to interfere with fate's ribbons, and yet this was an exception which wouldn't affect anyone; only a harmless alteration.

The only colour which brought Lance more heartbreak than red was grey. The grey ribbons which trailed behind people from time to time, cut in the middle and dead. That was the colour which hung from Lotor's finger, attached to nothing but holding on by a fray. His soulmate must have passed away a long time ago, for his ribbon had been grey since the moment that Lance had met him.

He gave one last look to Keith's ribbon before cutting through it, leaving it to fall to the ground as red faded to grey. His next difficult move was to bring the grey ribbon to Lotor's, tying them together tightly. He swallowed back his heartache, forcing a smile as red spread once more throughout the ribbons which now connected the two as soulmates.

Keith gazed up at Lotor in wonder, experimentally taking his hand and holding it tightly.

Lance glanced down at his hand again, watching grey consume his ribbon before turning his attention to the red hue which glowed between Keith and Lotor. He smiled painfully as they embraced each other, crying tears of happiness at the new bond that lance had granted them.

"Thank you, Lance!" Keith wrapped his arms around Lance, resting his head on his shoulder, "I know you'll find your soulmate soon, and you'll do anything for them. Anyone would be lucky to be tied to you."

Lance smiled sadly as both grooms left the room, holding his hand to his chest. His heart ached painfully. Tears began to run down his face as he picked up his grey ribbon, stroking the soft fabric between his fingers.

"You're right, Keith. I would do anything for my soulmate - anything for you."
