"Maya this isn't a good idea," Mia said, concern filling her voice.
"Mia, you know as well as I do he won't do it on his own. We have to do this." Maya smirked devilishly, moving Miles Edgeworth's name next to Phoenix's on the secret Santa draw.
"Now," She continued, "We just have to let the magic happen." She rubbed her hands together in a devious manner. Mia just shook her head laughing.
"It'd take a miracle for either of them to realise the other likes them back. I bet it won't work." She said, walking out. Maya followed quickly behind her.
"I bet you a burger it will!" Maya said enthusiastically, mouth-watering at the thought of a huge burger.
Mia just chuckled, "Alright. You're on."
The day of the announcement came quicker than Maya had imagined. She walked into the office casually, to avoid suspicion.
"Alright. Everyone, quiet." Mia said, stood in front of everyone authoritatively, "Take the slip of paper with your name on it and see who you have for secret Santa. Don't forget to not tell anyone who you have either, it ruins the fun." She crossed her arms and watched as everyone came up and took their slips, smirking slightly when Miles and Nick came up and took theirs.
When everyone had settled back down, she spoke again, "Remember: The gift exchange is next week so get your presents and put them in this bag," She held up a large black bag, "before then."
With that, everyone went about their normal lives. Except for two people, who left the room filled with anxiety.
Nick sat at his desk with his head in his hands. How the hell did he get Miles?! Out of all the people in the draw that he could have gotten, why did he have to get him?! What could he possibly get for the prosecutor that he didn't already have?
"Hey, Nick- Woah are you alright?" Maya said, sitting in the chair across from him.
"I'm fine," Nick said shaking his head.
"You're clearly not. What's up?" She pressed, already knowing perfectly well what the problem was.
"Alright fine. You can't tell anyone though. I got Miles in the secret Santa draw. But I have no idea what to get him! He's crazy rich, he probably already has everything so I don't know!" He said frustratedly. Maya just laughed.
"You worry too much Nick. Just get something that comes from the heart." She said, strangely maturely. Nick looked up in surprise.
"That was... weirdly mature of you Maya. Thanks." Nick smiled, eyes lighting up as he suddenly thought of an idea.
"I have a perfect idea! Maya if anyone comes by, just get Apollo, I don't know how long I'll be." He said, grabbing his coat and running out the door.
"Nick wait I-" She said, beginning to go after him before she realised it was too late. She just shook her head and laughed. That burger was as good as hers.
In Miles office, however, things weren't going as productively.
"Come on brain. Think!" He said in despair. Why did he have to get him?! He had no idea what to get him. He groaned loudly and put his head on his desk. He couldn't concentrate in this state. He poured himself a cup of tea and sat back down. What would Wright REALLY like?
He continued to sip his tea very slowly, hoping an idea would come to him. When eventually, something hit him. He had to get something to show him he cared. If, and this was a very hopeful if, he reciprocated these feelings, they'd take it further. Miles flushed at the thought. He finished off his tea, stood up and grabbed his coat. He headed out the door and to the mall.
