After Zac kissed me, he stepped back. My brothers rushed in, wrapping their arms around me. They were shaking, clearly scared they might have lost me. I held on tight, relieved to be with them again. My brothers meant everything to me. They were the only family I had left. Sure, I often felt like I could strangle Aiden, but that's just how our love-hate relationship worked.
"Uh, guys... can't breathe," I gasped. They were both built like tanks, so it was easy for them to accidentally squish me.
Then, out of nowhere, Austin and Aiden collapsed to the floor with a loud thud. My best friends had barreled in, not caring who got in their way. We all ended up on my bed, and surprise, surprise, I was getting squished again. Shannon landed on top of me, with Lewis sprawled over her. Great. I was pretty sure this might be the end of me.
"Oh my god, I'm so glad you're okay. Don't ever do this to me again!" Shannon cried into my shoulder, soaking my shirt with her tears. She's always been a crier. Seriously, she even cries during talent shows. But that's one of the reasons she's my best friend.
Lewis feels like my other half. He understands me better than anyone else—except for my brothers. Austin knows me well, but Aiden? He doesn't even know himself.
Lewis and I have a natural chemistry, and there's a flirtation between us. It's easy to feel attracted to him.
But here's the thing: our friendship means so much more than that. We've built something solid, and I wouldn't trade it for a fleeting moment.
He is also a player, so no thank you.
Finally, after a few minutes, they finally stood up next to my very annoyed brothers.
If looks could kill.
"Good to see you back, beautiful," Marax chimed in with a playful smirk.
I smiled faintly, still shaken from everything. "Thank you," I replied, trying to compose myself.
Satan's words echoed in my mind: "Oh, so you don't know his feelings towards you."
I shook my head, trying to push the thought away. My eyes scanned the room, landing on the people gathered here.
These people meant everything to me.
"Erm, if you don't mind, can I have a word with Nathaniel, please?" His eyes were fixed on me, but there was no emotion in them.
I couldn't read him. We hadn't spoken since he found out about me and Zac. I didn't blame him for it.
Deep down, I still cared about him. A part of me would probably always love him. But there was something about that cocky, gorgeous, arrogant demon that had completely captured my heart.
Everyone left the room, but Marax had to drag Zac out by his collar. Zac was not pleased, muttering a string of very bad words—ones I would never repeat.
Remind me to scold him later on.
I pushed the blanket off and slowly stood up, making my way over to Nathaniel, who wasn't even looking at me.
My hand gently touched his soft cheek, making him turn to face me. His bright crystal blue eyes met mine, but they were filled with pain.
"I just wanted to thank you for saving me. If it wasn't for you, I'd be dead," I said softly.
He gave me a sad smile. "Anything for you," he whispered, his face moving closer to mine.
His lips were mere inches from mine, and I felt frozen in place. Before I could process what was happening, Nathaniel kissed me with a fierce intensity, sending a wave of warmth through my body. But the moment overwhelmed me, and I pushed him away, perhaps a little too forcefully.
