When Eddy woke up the first thing he noticed was the violin playing. Is that Brett?
He was trying to figure out where he was and what happened. That sounds awful. It can't be him...
He groaned quietly. Is his bow going to shake through the whole piece?
His head hurt pretty bad. Oh wow, that was definitely not a proper B flat...
Also, his whole back was kind of stiff. Did he just skipped a few bars to avoid the hard part?
When his eyes finally focused, Brett playing his violin was the first thing he saw. I have not heard him this bad in a long time.
His brain tried to make sense of what was going on and when the rest of the group came into sight, his memories returned quickly.
He froze. In slow-motion, he lay back in the position he initially was in, his face just a little bit more downwards so he could see Brett. Praying that the kidnapper hadn't noticed him moving. It seemed like he had luck. For now, he would just stay like this until he had a plan for him and Brett to get out of here.
When Brett saw a movement in the corner of his eyes, his heart skipped a beat. The relief that Eddy was okay filled his body. Another tear slipped his eye. But it was one of joy. He did not dare to turn towards Eddy. The group of kidnappers didn't have noticed him being awake. Maybe they could use it to their advantage. But he would need to communicate with Eddy without drawing attention to them. He nearly smiled when an idea came to him.
Eddy needed all his concentration not to start panicking. There is no way out of here. We probably gonna die. How can Brett be so brave? I am such a coward. I fainted... Gosh...
A chance of tempo and melody caught his attention. Has Brett just switched between Handel to Mozart in just one bar? Eddy frowned. There was it again. From Morazt to Beethoven? Is he trying to tell me something?
Brett stopped playing before a melody chance which (he hoped) would sound to an amateur as the ending of a piece. A mixture of Mendelsohn, Handel, Mozart and Beethoven. But he was sure that he got Eddy's attention now. Brett took a deep breath and continued playing. He prayed that Eddy would understand and nobody else would notices.
The first few seconds Brett started playing again Eddy couldn't believe his ears. Was that part of their Pewdiepie Symphonie? What the heck Brett? Single words popped up in his mind: YouTube, TwoSetViolin, LingLing... Was there even a sense behind it? Or did he just run out of pieces to play? How long has he been standing there playing? But the version was kindly different... It seemed as Brett pronounced every "C" a bit more than everything else...
Then he understood: Charades. Brett wanted them to do Charades. Brett wanted to tell him something.
Brett played the whole 3 minutes of their old cover. Trying to switch between the 4 different soundtracks they had used in the past, to make it clear to Eddy what he meant and on the other side make it kind of sound classical to the rest. After that, he continued directly with the next piece. Hoping Eddy would follow.
Okay, so the next part would be important. The next part would be the real message. When Brett moved on to another piece, Eddy knew immediately that it was another older cover from them. He remembered filming this. He remembered editing it. He did not remember the name of the song.
His heartbeat quickened. He started panicking again. That can't be. I can't remember that stupid name of this stupid song? Eddy think! Think! It was on the tip of his tongue. It was from the very early days when they didn't even have their logo yet. Damn it Eddy, think! The one video in black and white, the two leaning against the stupid fence! Daaaa, dadadaaaa da... Maybe the name was not that important. Maybe something else was: black and white, early, past, cover... Was Brett covering for him? Or should he cover somebody? What do you mean Brett? This was so much harder without their unintentional body language they usually used in their videos. Eddy felt his eyes getting wet and felt childish for it. Brett shouldn't see him cry. Brett risked his life for him again! And he just lay here crying. He started blinking to hide his tears.
His body tensed. Hide! Hide and seek! That had been the song's name. Brett wanted him to hide. But where? Or did he want Eddy to hide something?
Brett got frustrated. It seemed like Eddy didn't get it. Damn it, Eddy. Was there another song he could use to bring his message forward? Maybe Eddy just needed a little bit more time? Brett didn't know but it seemed to him the safest way to repeat the whole piece with adjusting it just a little so the others wouldn't notice.
Eddy couldn't think of something he had on or near him what was worth hiding, so he concluded that Brett wanted him to hide. But where? He couldn't see any good opportunity from his perspective. He turned his head slowly up and realized what Brett meant.
No Brett. I am not going to do that!
