In the ensuing battle of pratapgargh, Shivaji's forces decisively defeated the Bijapur sultanate forces . Shocked by the defeat of powerful Afzal Khan, Bijapur Abyssinian general Rustom Zaman was sent next.
On 28th December 1659AD, Shivaji led a frontal charge at the center of the enemy forces, while the two other portions of cavalry were clashing, Rustom Zaman fled the battlefield in disgrace.
