Shivaji feigned severe illness and requested to send shipments of sweets and gifts for the poor in Agra for his health. While that was going on, Shivaji disguised as labour carrying a sweet basket and escaped with his son sambhaji. He took a route passing by Mathura, Kahi, Gaya, puri and into the territory of Golconda and Bijapur before reaching Raigad.
