Interview Questions:
Why did you choose to cover this song?
Honestly, the first time I heard this song I was literally speechless. I was an emotional wreck, after having listened to it. The way that Halsey created this song, I could have sworn that she wrote it specifically for me at the time. The lyrics just managed to find a way to pull at my heartstrings in a way music had never done before. It was the most surreal experience of my life, and I think it took me about 10 times of listening to the song, for me to process everything and get all of the emotions out of my system.
What does music mean to you?
Music has always played a huge role in my life. But it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I really started to invest my time to the art form; in the aspects of truly listening to lyrics and melody. I began to sit down and take my favorite songs and break them down, trying to understand what the artist was feeling when they wrote a specific verse or chorus. It wasn't until that moment that I said to myself, "A song is literally a work of art." That's when I felt like I was genuinely appreciating music for the first time, and due to it I began to write my own songs as well.
What do you love about performing?
I'd say since my early childhood, I've loved performing. I grew up my entire life in a Spanish speaking country, so whenever the school talent show came along, I was always the odd girl out since I would always sing in English. But it never mattered to me, because I love it. The feel of standing on stage and getting lost in your own world, as you held the microphone in your hands. Language didn't matter in that moment. It's an experience of a life time. As of five years now, I've been a Soprano for my church choir. And I have to admit that being in the choir has definitely brought a spark out of me. I'm thankful because of it. Being in a choir has given me that drive to want to push myself and grow stronger in my singing voice.
Who/what are your major artistic influences?
As a kid the very first album I owned was of Selena Gomez, and she was also the first artist I saw in concert. But to me artistic influences come and go, my musical tastes vary from time to time. So I have to say that as of right now there are four artist/bands that I cannot stop listening to. Like I literally could play their albums on a loop for hours on end and not get tired of listening. Those would have to be Camila Cabello, Harry Styles, 5 Seconds of Summer and the band PVRIS which is pronounced Paris. However there is no concrete artist that I could say is my major influence in life, it's mainly based on my mood and what artist could be that outlet for me at the time.
