Landon's Pov
"Kill them, without mercy." I spoke, looking straight at the two rogues that decided they could just pass through my land.
The fear was very much there.
"Yes Alpha." Zach one of my strongest warriors mumbled as I turned around walking away.
I've already wasted enough time coming out here for this. My mother, Audrey, is probably waiting on me. Ever since my dad, William, passed away she's never been the same i've never been the same. Soon after she grew very ill and now only lays in bed all day. Which makes me yearn for the days where she would get up with a smile while making the pack breakfast.
My parents were the most important people in my life so when my dad died, it made me more vicious than I already was. Now my mother was sick only making my anger unimaginable. They say when a mate loses their other half it was terrible, sickly terrible.
I've never found my mate but, when I do I hoped she was strong and beautiful. Then again I hardly wanted one because, of what my mom is going through. I don't ever think I want to know what it feels like to lose the other half of you, that would make me weak. Something I'm most certainly not but, if it did come down to it my wolf already pledged to do anything to protect her.
As I made my way to my house, I headed upstairs to my mothers room.
"Hello mother." I said gently, I went into her room placing a kiss on her forehead.
"Hi darling." her voice sounded weak like she wasn't getting better.
We had seen tons of pack doctors all saying the same thing 'It's the cause of losing her mate' but, there had to be something else. I even contacted a couple witches to see if a spell could work. Their response was that it wasn't their part to meddle in the natural order of things. Even when I threatened them in the end a witch is very powerful.
"Don't worry mom you'll get better." I whispered, kissing her head one more time.
I felt her frail hands cup my face, "It's okay Landon now tell me have you found that mate of yours." she said, with a faint smile.
Seeing her smile even though so faintly it reminded me of when things were better, "No mom just because, I go out doesn't mean I go out to find my mate." I said, with a chuckle grabbing her hands as I held them, she was probably the only person to see me even smile let alone laugh.
It was something I didn't do often, she sighed taking her hands away before carefully sitting up, "I know that, you just need someone already instead of hanging around your old mom all day and this pack." she replied, crossing her arms.
"One, your not old, two finding my mate can wait, right now you and this pack are my priority." I stated, going over and opening her curtains to let some sunlight in.
"I remember when I first met your dad it was love at first sight, second best day of my life." she spoke with sadness, but, happiness as well in her tone.
"What was the first?" I asked, going over to her closet picking out an outfit she'd wear and laying it on her bed.
"When you were born, your dad looked at me in a way he'd never did and said 'Now, now my life is complete.' and that is the best day of my life." she said softly, whispering the last part.
I could only half smile, thinking about my dads face made my heart hurt. Going over to her I pulled her into a comforting hug in which she gladly returned.
A couple moments later I left so she could get ready for the day. Plus Zach told me of more rogues in the area making my wolf on high alert. I ran threw the forest, shifting mid air into an all pure black wolf. Landing right in front of the four rogues who thought they had surrounded Zach. Being the first to lunge I clamped my jaws around one of their necks snapping it with ease.
Zach and I took on the rest of them before four more came at this time my other warriors had arrived. I turned around to leave knowing my warriors were more than capable of defeating them. I ran to the back of the pack house doors before shifting and grabbing some clothes from the bin of items we had.
As I walked in slowly through the pack house I noticed laughter coming from the kitchen. When I first stepped in a girl turned and bumped into me. It wasn't just anyone it was Layla Anderson the packs runt. Meaning she was very weak I also know her parents left the pack and never came back. I looked at her noticing her bloody nose before glancing over the crowd laughing then at her.
"I-I'm s-sorry." she almost whispered, before moving around me quickly to leave.
After she left everybody was dead silent. I looked over everyone slowly wondering what the hell just happened.
"So this is where you guys were laughing in the kitchen while rogues attacked MY lands." I boomed loudly, seeing fear flash through their eyes.
"Um we're sorry Landon we got caught up-" Brad started, before I cut him off.
"Alpha..." I corrected him, "..And sorry isn't going to protect my pack or did my beta forget that?" I replied harshly, raising an eyebrow.
I watched as he submitted by bowing his head, "No alpha."
"Don't let it happen again or the consequences won't be pretty." I spoke with my alpha tone as I shot glares at them and made my way to the forest.
My wolf, Jake, was seriously so jumpy right now almost agitated. I on the other hand had no reason to why he was acting like this. It started when we bumped into Layla that's for damn sure.
After shifting and letting my wolf take over he hunted, ate, and slept before finally making his way back to the house. I've tried numerous times to talk with him but, every time he says 'just wait soon you won't have to worry'
Though every single time it feels like he's talking to someone else. Great something to add to my list of Landon Carter's worries.
