Layla's pov

A small smile formed at the corner of my lips as my hand brushed over my belly. My eyes caught my own in the reflection of the bathroom mirror. And I couldn't stop smiling, just the mere thought of our pup was enough to fill me with a hint of joy. Plus Landon was alive and he was okay so knowing that only made everything better.

It had been a couple days since everything that happened. There's a constant fear nagging at me telling me to be cautious about the consequence. I've tried not to think about it and when Landon is home I don't. But, lately he's been distant which came off as a major shock to my wolf and I. We would think that with the pregnancy he'd want to be as close as possible.

Or maybe it was just us that wanted to be close as possible to him considering what just happened. I almost lost him and every night I'm reminded of it by horrifying nightmares. Landon usually has to wake me up from them just so I can see that he's here. At first I felt so awful to be waking him up but, he didn't seem to care. As he'd give me probably a million kisses while waiting for me to fall back asleep.

Other than helping me with my sleep and kissing me goodbye before he leaves, he hasn't been spending as much time with me as I'd like. I want to ask him about it but, then I realized that he died and that quite possibly could take a toll on someone.

I jumped out of my thinking when I felt sparks go up my arms from Landon's hands, "Hi baby." he whispered in my ear, trailing his hands to my belly, "I guess you too." he kissed my mark with a chuckle.

My eyes playfully rolling as I lightly pushed him away, "Hi." I smiled and he cupped my face to bring me towards him.

Our lips connected in a sweet kiss, when he pulled away I sighed in content, "I missed you so much." I whispered against his lips, grabbing a fistful of his shirt.

His lips lifted into a grin before leaning down to kiss  me again. It was longer this time, filled with pleasure and sparks. One of his hands dropped to my lower back to bring me into him. His body heat and scent engulfed me, Mia basked in having our mate so close. I felt at ease now that he was here, no more constantly thinking about the consequence.

He pulled away slowly, putting his forehead against mine, "I missed you, my love." his thumb caressed the side of my jaw and I leant into his hand.

"I feel better when you're here with me." I closed my eyes, relishing in this time with him before he has to leave for something.

"What's wrong?" I opened my eyes at his question, "I can feel how relieved you are, did something happen while I was gone?" he growled at the end of his sentence and tugged me closer.

I sighed in content at his possessiveness, "No." I shook my head, "I just miss you a lot when you're gone." I laughed a little feeling like maybe that was too clingy.

He frowned, "Baby, I miss you too and I'm sorry I've been so busy." he said sincerely.

My hands tightened their hold on his shirt, seeking for some comfort, "It's okay, I know that you have alpha duties."

He growled once more, his dark brown orbs boring into mine, "You're more important." The pad of his thumb caressed my chin softly.

I smiled at that and I felt my heart speeding up. He pulled away, lacing our fingers together before leading us out of the bathroom. I felt so full of happiness having him with me. I squealed when he turned to me, his hands flying to my hips to lift me up effortlessly. My arms hooked around his neck, our laughter meshing together.
