The resort is fancy. I could tell just from the gates. Immediately we drive in I spot Tobi standing at the parking lot with an older man. They wait till stepmother finds a space to park before approaching us.
"Welcome", the older man moves forward to shake stepmother's hand.
"Thank you for having us Mr Adetoye', she says shaking him firmly.
"Let's go then. My wife has probably settled in by now".
Tobi looks nothing like his father, except for the height of course. Mr Adetoye seems to have his face stuck in a permanent frown giving him a stern look which Tobi definitely does not have. So other than the height he took all his looks from his mother.
We trail behind them as they lead us to a small car. It looks like those things golfers use for transportation. Not sure what it's called.
Stepmother, Amelia and I all pile into the back while Tobi and his father take the front seat with his father driving .
He drives us past the main building with people milling around, past serene landscapes till we get to a gate just as fancy as the main one but smaller. Mr Adetoye drives through the gate and I find myself staring at rows of little huts on either side of the road. They are all evenly spaced with short wooden fences between them which gives me the opportunity to see that there are more huts behind the first row.
Mr Adetoye leads us to the very last hut on the right and we all follow him into it. The first thing I see is Richard lounging on a sofa, his legs hanging of the chairs armrest as he uses his phone.
"Aunty! They've arrived o!", he says without taking his eyes of his phone. Mrs Adetoye comes out from the only other door in the room apart from the main entrance and in her usual manner engulfs us each in a hug.
"Welcome, welcome. It's so nice to see you", she says.
"And you too", stepmother returns, "thank you for inviting us".
She shrugs it of like its nothing and after throwing Richard of the sofa, invites us sit down. There are only three chairs in the room-two single chairs placed opposite each other, and the long sofa opposite the TV which is hung in the wall. Amelia and I take the long sofa, while stepmother takes one of the single ones as Mr Adetoye occupies the other single chair. Richard forces his way between Amelia and I and reclines back resting his hands on the headrest behind us, but a sharp look from Mr Adetoye has him jumping up and scuttling out of the room.
"You should settle in first before we start planning our activities for this week. I'm really excited!!", Mrs Adetoye tells us the excitement evident on her face.
"Let them rest first", Mr Adetoye tells her before turning to us, "you have the hut next to us".
"Of course", stepmother smiles and we all get up, "I'm really looking forward to this week", she says as we get to the door.
Tobi and Mr Adetoye escort is to our hut. The interior is an exact replica of the Adetoye's hut.
"Fancy", Amelia mumbles.
Walking through the only other door in the room I find that it leads to a passage way with two doors on either side and another door at the end of the hall.
"The two bedrooms and a bathroom", Mr Adetoye explains.
The bedrooms are simple. These huts were obviously meany to be cozy and not extravagant and from stepmother's face she wants extravagant.
"Well we'll leave you to the rest. Come Tobi", Mr Adetoye turns to leave and Tobi reluctantly follows him. He has been trying to catch my eye since the parking lot.
"I'll take the room on the left and Amelia......."
"I know, I know. I'll take the couch", I say already turning around.
"I was going to say you share the bedroom with Amelia. I don't want the Adetoyes asking questions".
Still conniving and petty but better than sleeping on the couch. I'll take it!!!
Amelia looks like she wants to oppose but one look from her mother shuts her up.
Later that day we have dinner with the Adetoyes at the resorts restaurant. Richard manages to snag a seat next to me before Tobi could, and with Mrs Adetoye on my other side Tobi is left to sit between Amelia and stepmother. Poor guy.
After dinner we all hed back to our to get proper rest for tomorrows activities.
