MURDEROUS MELODIES

"Ain't that pretty!" said my roommate Yoongi.

"I agree. This beautiful thing is ready to see the stage in a couple of weeks!" I said excitedly as I stroked the brand new violin I had purchased.

As I stroked it, I admired the feel of its curves, grooves and glossy finish. I tapped the dark brown wood and plucked the metallic strings. How melodious they sounded!

"Hoseok, I'm pretty sure that you're gonna rock any stage with this brand new violin!" Yoongi said.

"Yeah, but if only I could find one that's available and prove to the world that I can do this." I sighed, putting the violin back in its case.

*

I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of someone calling my name.

"Hoseok..." said the voice.

I hopped out of bed and tried to find out where the voice was coming from.

Suddenly, the voice was replaced by the sound of a violin.

On listening carefully and following the sound, I discovered that it was coming from my living room, where I left my new violin.

I saw the violin levitating in mid-air, the bow running across the strings.

I shuddered. I felt chills running down my spine. Scared and flummoxed, I tip-toed back to my room.

Suddenly, the violin just appeared in front of me as soon as I turned around.

I let out a screech and passed out.

*

"Hoseok?"

I slowly opened my eyes to find Yoongi with his hand on my forehead.

"You were out cold for a few hours," he said, "What happened?"

"Yoongi...a voice...the violin...floating...haunted..." I struggled to speak.

"I think you must have had an awful nightmare. Just drink some water and find a way to calm down and relax. Alright?" said Yoongi, stroking my back gently.

I nodded, taking a sip of water from a glass.

*

It's just a dream, it's just a dream, I kept repeating in my head.

Just then, I could hear the violin again.

I shuddered, pulling the blankets closer to me. I didn't want to see that violin ever since last night's incident.

Suddenly, I heard footsteps. I thought of staying in bed to avoid getting into trouble.

Unfortunately, my curiosity got the better of me. I got out of bed and quietly tip-toed to the living room.

Then, I spotted Yoongi.

"Yoongi!" I yelled. He walked towards the levitating violin, as if he were in a trance.

"Yoongi! Stop!" I yelled again, but he couldn't hear me.

I tried to run towards him, but it was too late.

As soon as he touched the violin, there was a blinding flash of light.

*

"Yoongi?" I asked softly.

Yoongi laughed. That certainly didn't sound anything like him. He normally laughed in a playful manner, but this laugh was different.

It sounded more...sinister. It was scary enough to send chills down my spine.

"Yoongi?" I said again, my voice trembling.

He didn't say a word. He just stared blankly.

I felt uncomfortable with the way this was going, so I decided to turn around and go to my bedroom.

Unfortunately, as soon as I turned around, Yoongi suddenly appeared before me with the violin in his hand.

As soon as he began to play the instrument, I suddenly felt a painful, burning sensation in my chest.

I dropped to the ground, clutching my chest in pain. As the intensity of the music increased, the burning sensation spread to the rest of the body.

Another sinister laugh was the last thing I could hear before the silence finally bore down upon me.
