Bittersweet

Chapter Ten

It was already Wednesday in New York City, and it was time for Maddy to come back to work.

As she walked to Calypso's Coffee Shop, Maddy realized that Kyle would be there today since they had hired him. She felt a wave of excitement and dread flow through her body. She didn't know what to expect. She hoped she could strike up a good conversation instead of making a complete fool of herself like she did the last time.

But it's like every time she would see him, she'd start thinking about the incident. It just came to her. And she felt the sudden urge to start crying.

Maddy shook her head and walked into the little shop.

"I see your well rested and ready for work today," Cal said to her.

"Yeah. My foots fine and my alarm clock actually went off this morning."

"Well, good. Blake's in the back looking for some ingredients to put up here in the front. Would you go help him?"

"Yeah, of course, Cal."

Maddy swallowed down her nervousness and walked into the back, where she found the back of Blake. He was crouching down and looking through some items on the bottom shelf.

"Hey, do you need any help over there?" Maddy asked.

Kyle shot up out of the crouching position and spun around.

"Oh God, you scared me."

Maddy smiled and said "Sorry. I didn't mean to."

"It's okay."

"So, do you need any help?" Maddy asked again.

"Yeah. I need to find..." He looked down at the clipboard in his and then said "Chocolate syrup."

Gosh, Kyle was so cute.

"Well, it's all organized into alphabetical order. So the very top row is ingredients with starting letters A through G. Then the second row is H through Q then the bottom is R through Z. So, that means the chocolate syrup is..." Maddy reached up and found the syrup then grabbed it. "Right here."

She shook the bottle and smiled at him.

"Thanks," he said.

"Anytime."

He took the bottle from her hand walked up to the front.

Maddy took her stuff into the staff room and set it down. She walked back to the front and saw Calypso giving some instruction to Kyle.

"So what you have to do is put some ice, chocolate syrup, and coffee, then blend it all together to make this."

Cal showed him the same drink she had made earlier.

"Oh. Okay."

"Now, if you can't seem to remember how to make what, you could come to me, Maddy, or the little book by the cash register. That shows you how to make all the drinks on the menu here at Calypso's Coffee Shop."

Kyle nodded his head to show his acknolegement. He tried to do it himself, but made one mistake.

He forgot to put the top of the blender on. Before Maddy could react, Kyle had turned on the blender. Chocolate sauce and coffee flung on everything, including Maddy and Calypso. Maddy closed her eyes as she felt the contents fly onto her.

"Oh shit!" He yelled.

Maddy opened her eyes and muttered under her breath "Yeah, oh shit is right."
