Blake was at it again. He was pensive, had been so for a whole day. Maria was worried but she didn't dare talk to him about it, whatever it was.

The following morning, he called for a meeting with the vampire council.

"The witches are involved," he said when all were seated; he, at the head of the table, his mate on his lap, and the members of the vampire council haphazardly around.

"Involved in what, your highness?"

"Can you explain a little bit, your highness?"

Funny how everyone started addressing him respectfully since he decided to take on his rightful place!

"The old man was cursed," he told them without beating around the bushes.

"Cursed?" All of them repeated in unison.

"Cursed," he confirmed grimly with a curt nod.

"How would you know?" Jeremiah frowned before adding quickly, "if you don't mind my asking."

"My late mother cursed him to forget all about his true love. In other words, his memory was wiped clean of their short time together. There's no spell, no potion and no curse in the world that could overrule hers," he explained matter-of-factly.

"I'm not sure I follow," Maria said hesitantly, speaking up for the first time. "He did say he was able to remember her face."

"Exactly," Blake iced out. "And that cannot be, I'm sure of it."

He paused, looking warily at everyone sitting around him. "I believe his curse makes him think he remembered, makes him daydream all day long, distracts him from reality."

"You mean to say..."

"He's starving himself," he nodded at Jeremiah, confirming his suspicions. "The old man probably hasn't fed in over a month if his state is anything to go by."

"What are we to do, your highness?" The vampire council's president asked, sounding ready to do his bid.

"Gather the witches that work at the palace. I'll interrogate them personally." He announced coldly.

"Yes, your highness."

With a wave of his hand, he dismissed them.

"Are you okay?" His mate asked softly as she stroked his face lovingly.

"I will be. Once I get to the bottom of this." He said before brushing her lips with his briefly.

"I love you," she told him when they broke apart.

"I know," he replied with a cheeky smirk.

"Don't you forget it."
