It had been a really, really long day, and Andrew was bored. He'd been playing on Mrs Silva's computer, watching Disney DVDs, and eating crisps, so it hadn't been all bad, but he was missing his Mummy and Daddy so much. He wondered why they hadn't come to find him yet. Maybe they were too busy to come and look for him.
Daddy was always at work. And Mummy had been busy talking to Esme and her mummy. Mrs Silva had come up to him and asked if he was okay and did he want to come and see something in the spare classroom, so he'd followed her. He'd followed her out of the school gates and into a waiting taxi. He knew he shouldn't go with her but she'd grabbed hold of him and said he had to come with her now or he would get into so much trouble for running away from his mummy.
When they'd got to Mrs Silva's flat, he was upset. She'd taken him to a room with windows all covered up with flat curtains so it was quite dark. Mrs Silva told him not to play with the blinds, whatever they were. There was a big TV and lots of toys and lots and lots of nice food. There were some nice clothes that all fitted him.
"I should go back to Mummy," he'd said. "She won't know where I am."
"I'll tell her," Mrs Silva said. "Don't worry. Your lovely mummy knows me."
"Really? Mummy never said."
"Oh yes. And I knew your daddy, very well. That's why you're here. I think it's time you met him."
"Don't be silly, I know my Daddy," he'd explained.
Mrs Silva had laughed. "We'll see about that, little Andrew. We'll see about that."
The first few nights he'd cried a lot. But Mrs Silva had been really nice. They hadn't gone anywhere or done anything. But they'd watched lots of films and stayed up really late. That was a few days ago, he thought.
Today, she'd gone back to work. He was under strict instructions to stay in the room where he was. There was a little room next to the bedroom with a toilet in it, so that was fine.
"Are you going to tell Miss Hope where I am?" he'd asked.
"Don't worry, Miss Hope knows you won't be at school today," she'd said. "Isn't it exciting? I wonder when your daddy will come and find you?"
"If it's a school day, he will be at work," Andrew had pointed out.
"He'll have to come and find you soon," Mrs Silva had said. "Or we'll run out of chocolate and DVDs."
"I want to go home to Mummy," Andrew had said, sadly.
"Your mummy doesn't deserve you," Mrs Silva had said. She'd looked cross.
"Why?"
She hadn't said anything. "You have to stay here, Andrew. I'll lock you in. You'll be fine."
"But.. I want to go home.."
She'd ignored him and shut the door. She'd locked it and then he'd listened as she left her flat.
Now it was late, probably bedtime. All he'd had to eat today was crisps, and he felt hungry. He wanted a nice dinner. Maybe she would bring him a nice dinner. Maybe Mummy and Daddy would come and find him today. Or maybe tomorrow.
He cried a little bit. He loved his Mummy and Daddy. He hoped that they weren't too upset that he wasn't at home with them. He wanted them to come and find him soon. Even though Mrs Silva was very nice to him most of the time, he missed his Mummy, and her lovely black curly hair, and the way she sang to him sometimes.
He was tired and he decided to try and go to sleep. Hopefully he would be able to go home tomorrow.
