As she paced up and down, options whirred through her head like cartwheels. Now, she had Paul locked in her spare bedroom. She had no idea how long it would take for anyone to know that he was missing. Presumably, Jenny would notice. She was pretty sure it was Jenny who he had sent a text to when she'd arrived at his room. Or, maybe it was this blonde bimbo girlfriend, whose face was taunting her as it grinned from the photo on his phone. He's mine. Well, not any more.

He'd got a code lock thing on his phone. He'd had a few incoming calls but she couldn't answer them without the phone being unlocked, annoyingly. She could make an emergency call on it, that was about the only thing she could do with it. Useless.

Of course, the only flaw in her plan was obvious now, the fact that Jenny would be able to get her claws back into him. And she clearly had. Silly little slut. She was so looking forward to ringing the local paper. She'd do it now, but they wouldn't get the message until tomorrow morning, so she decided she would do it in the taxi tomorrow morning, so Paul and little Andrew could hear every word of the conversation. Andrew could find out just what a solid couple his "parents" were, and Paul could realise how important it was that he disappeared somewhere where Jenny's husband, and Deny, and his blonde bimbo girlfriend, couldn't find him.

But then if it hadn't been for that, then how would she have been able to find Paul? Jenny had led her right to him, it was so easy. It hadn't been that easy to listen to what they got up to in that hotel room, but it seemed a shame not to stick around and find out what she was missing out on.

There was no way she could sleep. It was getting light now. She was all packed and ready to go, she wondered if she could get a taxi sooner. She could see that Paul was going to take a bit more convincing before anything happened between them. She had an idea of how she was going to persuade him, but they needed to get away from Jenton first. As far away as they could.

There was a buzz, the bell to her flat.

Who was that? It wasn't even six yet.

She went to the intercom and looked at the camera image. It was a policeman.

Baby panicked. Police didn't ring on your doorbell at six in the morning without good reason. She had to make them think she was out.

It buzzed again.

Then her mobile phone rang. Unknown number. She switched it off.

Then Paul's mobile phone rang again. Of course she still couldn't answer it, stupid phone. She switched that off, too. It now occurred to her that they would probably know that he was here, if his phone was switched on.

The doorbell buzzed again. She made sure the door was locked and put the chain across. It wouldn't be long before they gained entry to the flats and were at this door.

Shit. She hadn't anticipated this. Maybe she should have got Andrew out of town first before going after Paul.

She stood at the door, looking at the bedroom door, knowing that the subject of her unrequited affection was the other side of it. She still cursed the day she started thinking about him in that way. It had been completely un-necessary but once he had got into her head, she hadn't been able to let him go.

She'd been friends with Paul for years, although if she was honest, he'd always been the un-necessary fourth member of her little gang with Claire and Zamian. Both she and Claire had been madly in love with Zamian all through school, and Paul was just his socially inept, unattractive friend. Baby had finally got her man, much to Claire's disappointment. But it was not long afterwards that Paul had started going out with Jenny. Initially Baby had been puzzled, along with most of Jenny's friends. Why is such an attractive, popular girl going out with the guy nobody else wanted?
