Law of Hearts

Chapter 2

      My sweats were dripping from my forehead down to my face. My legs and feet were aching because of my running. My hair were in messy bun with the baby hair rolled down to my face.

I'm late!

Very late!

Alas 8 na akong nagising dahil sobrang pagpupuyat ko para sa midterm exams namin ngayon at nakalimutan kong may lab pala kami 7:30.

"Shit! Shit! Shit!" I said as I glanced at my wrist watch and indicating that it was already 9:08AM.

The loud noise I made when I entered the laboratory caught everyone's attention. Halos mahiya ako ng magtapo ang mata namin ni Thaddaeus. All of them were already wearing their lab gowns, mask, and gloves.

"Miss Monreal! You're too early for your next subject! Malapit na kaming matapos!" Doc Velasco voice echoed inside the lab. I heard my blockmates laughed.

Lumapit ako sa kanya.

"I am very sorry ma'am! Pwedi pa po ba akong humabol?" Tanong ko sa kanya. Her darkly brown hair were in pony tail while her black rimmed eyeglasses was on the tip of her nose. The lab gown she was wearing has her name on it, Rhianne Caiyet K. Velasco, MD, PhD.

"Tell me your reasons why you are late and I might consider it." She said while she crossed her arms against her chest.

"Masyado po kasi akong nagpuyat kagabi sa pag aaral para sa exam namin mamaya, Doc. Late na po akong na gising dahil 'dun." I said. I was embarrassed. Tinignan niya ako mabuti na parang sinusuri kung nagsasabi ba ako ng totoo o hindi.

"Hmm. What do you think, Thaddaeus?" Tanong bigla ni Doc Velasco. Nagulat ako sa tanong niya dahil kay Thaddaeus niya ito tinatanong. My breathe hitched when I heard footsteps behind my back. Na amoy ko agad ang magkahalong pabango at shower gel niya. Pucha, ang bango niya! Habang ako wala ng oras maligo! Na concious tuloy ako sa bango. Huhubells!

"You are one of the brilliant student here, Thaddaeus. I know you studied last night, too. But why is it you came on time while Ms. Monreal cannot?" Tanong bigla ni Doc. Gusto kong lamunin na ng lupa. Tama nga siya. Hindi lang ako ang nag aral kagabi pero ako lang ang hindi nakaperform ngayon at late.

"There are many circumtances that we have no control, Doc." Saad niya. Hindi ko kaya siyang lingon dahil ng sobra akong nahiya. Pakiramdam ko lahat ng mga kaklase ko ay nanunood kahit pa pinagpatuloy nila ang mga ginagawa nila.

"Hmm. I guess, it make sense! Well, you can perform Ms. Monreal with Thaddaeus's group. He can also help you to keep up what you missed. I need to make sure you can perform the activity without taking shortcut. Go now." She said with finality of her voice. Pinagpatuloy na din ang pagbabasa ng libro at worksheets habang ako nakatayo parin dahil hindi maproseso ang ng yayari.

Dahan dahan akong lumingon kay Thaddeaus. He look at me with his head on front and his eyes on me.

"Let's go."

Umalis na siya tabi ko at bumalik sa grupo niya. I swallowed hard because I was nervous. Kahit kailan ay hindi kami nagkapartner ni Thaddaeus sa mga lab or activity. He has a group of friends and I had mine. Kaya walang basagan ng trip.

I wear my lab gown, mask and gloves. I walked slowly to his group. Nadaanan ko ang group ni Hera at halos kurotin niya ako ng dumaan ako.

"What an entrance, sis!" She winked at me.

Lumapit ako sa kanya pati na rin sa ka grupo niyang si Theo, Yuri at Kristin. They are already busy with their assigned task while I'm standing. I don't know what to do!
