Suzy wanted to run and call somebody, get some help for Nathan, but she was a long way away from anybody she knew. Nathan seemed to be doing fine on his own, but that didn't stop her from being worried for him. These guys were known to be dangerous when they got angry. They had hospitalized Janie's ex - boyfriend a while back. It was the reason she dumped him, actually. To protect him from one of their jealous members.

If he really needed it, she could step in and lend a hand. Sure, she only met him a short while ago, but these guys were complete arseholes, and between his unusual amount of skill and the thing, she was sure they could take them. As long as she wasn't showy about it.

Nathan swung that staff of his like a club, and this time, it didn't shoot out some white - grey beam. Maybe that was just a lightning strike or something. What else could it be, really?

Suzy took a few tentative steps towards the fighting group. She got behind one of the unsuspecting boys and kicked up, into his groin. The boy doubled over in pain, falling to the ground and clutching his dong. Suzy had to suppress a giggle.

How does it hurt them so much? Ah, who cares.

She stepped over the incapacitated boy, sneaking over towards Nathan and the rest of them. She still didn't know why she was here. Normally, she would have run off to call somebody, or just try to forget about it.

But she didn't. She couldn't explain it, but she felt so drawn to him. It wasn't the same way she felt about Clint, for sure. She didn't like him, at least not that way. It was more like a sense of comfort. A release of stress. It was so wierd, but... it was there.

Nathan was holding his own just fine, and it was almost mesmerizing to watch. He was fliud and graceful, mixing the use of the staff with his bare fists. She could have watched him do it forever if she had to. This guy was the strangest she had ever met, but she didn't mind.

It was her mistake that she let her guard down. Strong arms wrapped around her body, holding her in place. She struggled against her assailant's grip, but it was no use. It was like iron.

"Don't you know that when you kick a guy in the dick, you don't stick around?" The boy behind her said, tightening his grip on her arms. "Because then he gets mad."

She whimpered as he pulled on her arms harder, and Nathan whiped his head towards her. He had already taken out everybody who was attacking him, and had all of his attention focused on her.

Come on, Suzy, do it!

She tried to concentrate, but the powerfull grip on her arms kept piercing through it. When she finally concentrated hard enough to do the thing, it wouldn't work.

Damnit! What the hell kind of superpower doesn't work when you're under stress?

A lot, she supposed, but it didn't make the situation any better. If only she could get a grip on herself, she could get out of the boy's hold easily.

Nathan took a step towards them, and the boy pulled harder. Suzy yelled, and Nathan stopped moving. The boy behind her switched his grip to one hand, and with the other pulled out a small pocket knife.

"Take another step, you animal, and we'll see if her hair matches her blood. Ya hear me?"

Nathan glared at the boy, who shuddered a bit despite holding the weapon. Looking at him, Suzy felt the wave of comfort wash over her. The anxiety was suppresed, shed off of her shoulders. It was a phenominal feeling; she wouldn't trade it for anything. Except for her freedom, of course.

She locked eyes with Nathan, and without moving so much as to scratch her neck on the knife, nodded her head. Nathan gave her a quizzical look, and Suzy rolled her eyes. Why did she expect him to know what she meant? This wasn't a movie.

"Hit me," She mouthed. His questioning look deepened, and for a second she thought it meant he didn't understand her.

He mouthed back, "What? Why?" and miraculously she understood him. The boy behind her pulled his knife closer to her neck, and Suzy inhaled sharply.

"Shut up! Now drop the branch and kick it over," The boy ordered. Nathan flicked his eyes to him briefly, then back to Suzy. She pleaded with her eyes, desperately hoping her message got across.

Nathan let go of the staff, letting it fall to the ground. It hit the dirt with a dull thud, and Suzy could feel the boy behind her grin.

"We'll trade the stick for the bitch, yeah?" He said. Nathan's brow furrowed, and without warning, he swept his hand up. He was a few feet away from them, so Suzy didn't know what he expected to happen.

If she wasn't already prepared, she would have gotten whipped in the face. Maybe even dislocated her jaw. A thin green vine shot from the ground, dove into her chin, out the back of her head, and into her assailant's eye.

He screamed, and the vine instantly retracted, pulling back into the ground after exiting Suzy's face. She blinked rapidly, trying to process what happened as the boy behind her tumbled backwards. Nathan looked at her, bewildered.

No blood came out of where the vine entered her skull. There was not even a scratch. The thing had came through, and while she was happy, she was also screwed. Nathan, and possibly the boy behind her, knew what she could do.

But what about Nathan? She looked at him as he put two and two together, slowly but surely coming to the conclusion that she had. She had become intangible.

But what about him?
