Today was the day where the boys and the little leagues go head to head, after yesterdays incident I didn't want to go back to the field. A part of me though kept saying to go back because it would be worth it.
I also just couldn't miss out on this competition with Phillips, he deserves to have his ass kicked.
So that afternoon I built up the courage to get changed in baseball appropriate clothing and head out the door, making my way to where Phillips and his team play. I was still very angry about the shenanigans that occurred yesterday, so my stubborn self is definitely not going to be speaking to them.
It didn't take very long to get there, but when I did get their they were already getting into their positions. It seems that my boys are fielding this time. All of them watched me walk across the field, slipping on my glove I stand in position and wait for them to begin but they just look at me.
"What are you looking at? Start the game already you eggheads!" I shout, they all snap out of their trance and begin the game.
None of the little league boys hit a single ball, the first half of the game went by quite quickly. Throughout the game Ham kept making little comments, which must have helped with their losing streak.
Unless they are just that bad...
It was time for Phillips to bat, if he hit one of those balls I think I would lose my mind.
"Hey is that your sister out there in left field, naked?" Ham teased as Phillips face grew angrier.
As the ball came flying towards him and he was getting prepared to swing but Ham had other ideas.
"She's naked" Phillips missed, yes!
"Shut up Porter!" He yelled, smacking the bat into the dirt.
"Hey hey hey, I'm just trying to male friendly conversation" Ham chuckled putting his arms up in defence.
"Come you, you think she'd go out with me?"
Eventually it was time to rotate and it was our teams time to bat, Ham started first.
"Strike him out!" One of the little league boys shouted.
"Hey batter batter"
The ball was pitched and Ham swung, he hit the ball first try. Did much better than the little league dorks.
We went down the line of everyone in our team. Bertram then DeNunez, Squints...eh you get the point. Everybody had managed to hit the ball first swing, even Smalls. By the end of our turns we had dirt on the sides of our jeans because of us sliding on the floor to get the bases before the little leaguers could.
It was now Benny's turn, we already knew he was going to win this for us. We watched in anticipation as the ball was thrown and he swung, he hit the ball with a loud crack.
We won
The boys start cheering as Benny ran the bases with a grin on his face, the rest of us ran from their bases to home. The other team threw their gloves to the floor in defeat, slowly walking back to their seating area so they can head home.
The sandlot guys are in a small group cheering about how we had just beat Phillips, finally giving him a taste of his own medicine. I end up grabbing my glove and head off the field but I'm suddenly stopped.
"LJ wait!" I turn back and notice the guys running over to me.
"We didn't think you were going to come..." Squints mumbled while I stared at them with a blank expression.
"As mad as I am right now, I wasn't going to miss beating Phillips in baseball" I told them shrugging my shoulders, they all looked at one another then back to me.
"Uh, I'm sorry for what I said yesterday. It was totally uncalled for and I wasn't thinking, you're genuinely a good baseball player I just had a hard admitting it" Ham quickly apologised looking down awkwardly as he wasn't really the type to apologise for his actions.
"Yeah yeah, we're also sorry for laughing" Yeah Yeah also apologised.
"I'm also sorry for calling you sensitive, you had the rights to be upset at what Ham said. We shouldn't have been jerks about" Benny calmly said, looking at me with his big brown eyes hopping for forgiveness. Actually they all looked at me hoping I would forgive them.
"Fine, I guess I accept your apologises, I should apologise to though...I shouldn't have gone that crazy over what you said Ham...and Benny, it was uncalled for." I forgave and apologised letting a small smile appear on my face, their faces light up as they pull me into a group hug.
"Okay that's enough" I giggled detaching myself from the hug.
"We need to celebrate this victory" Ham grinned, we all pondered for a moment.
"The carnival?" I suggested, they all got excited and agreed to the idea. We began walking home together so we could get ready.
This is going to be one chaotic evening
