✻ not a ship chapter, its just the S4 messing around
army/aloha (< very much so) and skull/aviator is implied though :]

EDIT: while proofreading i realized skull is just third-wheeling for most of the story which is a fat mood 👍👍👍👍👍👍 also im not finishing this unless you hold me at gunpoint LMAO

" that's it! you've chased me to my wit's end, you useless magician. now we're hopelessly lost and it's all because of your faulty compass! "

Aloha rolled his eyes and leaned on his staff, waving his hand at the knight in dismissal. Meanwhile Skull watched the two argue for the fifth time throughout the whole quest.

" it's not faulty. "  The wizard retorted matter-of-factly.
He continued with a chirp. " it points to whatever your heart wants most! ♩ "
Army hastily grabbed the compass. Sure enough it changed direction when he had it in his hands. He couldn't believe it, but it was their last hope if they wanted to get out of this enchanted forest. Slowly, Army spoke in a hushed tone.

" my heart longs for the lost princess. may we find our way through this accursed forest so that we may help her find hers in turn. "

The pink squid huffed in disbelief. Army and Skull had already set off again, intently following the newly configured compass.

Their little party had consisted of four members, all S+ ranked adventurers. They were the best of the best. Unfortunately Mask decided to use his potent necromancer powers to become an evil overlord and kidnap a princess for fun. So currently they were only the S3.

Army was the feared Captain of the Royal Guard and supposedly was the next heir to lead his noble family. His time was spent doing rescue quests or helping people in need. When he ran out of things to do he'd chat with his friends Sailor White and Sailor Blue. His friends also served under him as knights but they all knew how to bake, so they made muffins and bread together in their freetime (though he'd be mortified if anyone found out). He would have to give up his life of adventure unless he rescued his older sister from Mask so she could take charge instead.
Army was quite satisfied and enchanted his life the way it was now,
so of course he put his full attention on saving her.

Aloha was a powerful magician who wasted his skill on little party tricks, pathetically easy quests and impressing girls. He flitted from town to town getting drunk at pubs and leaving a trail of broken hearts in his wake. The only reason he maintained his high rank was because in his attempts to impress girls he killed a lot of strong monsters. Aloha only agreed to go on the quest because he heard there was a princess. Or maybe because the Captain was kinda hot...

Skull was the sharpest shooter the two kingdoms had ever known. The most esteemed in New Inkington, and the most feared in Octoshire. Once his arrow flew loose from the bowstring it would always hit it's target. Somehow his eyebrows had been banished to the dark realm. He was actually just born that way, but he thought the theory was funny so he wouldn't say anything. Skull never said much in general. He'd went with them because he didn't have anything else to do, and he kinda wanted Mask to be their friend again.

The morning light flickered through the forest canopy, the pale yellow spots dancing across the grass and the brightly-colored trio. Army would have stopped to admire how pretty it was but he was really focused on the compass. Skull was doing just that. He was looking around so intently he tripped over a small tree branch. Luckily he didn't fall flat on his face but he staggered enough to make Aloha giggle. Skull didn't really care and continued following Army.
