Female reader. Angsty fluff? Fluff angst? I dunno, man.
Sophie Foster
The night was young and so were we. Marella and Dex danced together, Biana and Keefe shared jokes. Fitz was dancing with Linh. Wylie and Tam coversed quietly, and I stood in peaceful silence.
The Foxfire dance had come as a surprise to everyone. It honestly reminded me of prom. I never went though. After all, nobody had liked me.
"Sophie, do you know her?" Keefe suddenly asked me. He and Biana looked concerned, and I noted the girl they were talking about.
"I think that's Y/n L/n. Why?" I informed them, watching her leave the room. The dress's color looked nice with her h/c hair and e/c eyes.
"I can feel the sorrow and sadness all the way over here," Keefe stated, frowning slightly. "Something's wrong."
"I think even a non-empath could tell, Keefe," Biana said, rolling her beautiful eyes.
"I'll go check it out. Be back soon," I waved at my friends before rushing out the door, holding up the skirt of the red dress.
Y/n trudged across Foxfire's grounds. She glanced about and raised a crystal to the moonlight. I kicked off the heels and sprinted toward her.
"Wait!" I shouted, grabbing her elbow just as she was whisked away.
I opened my eyes and gasped at our new surroundings. We were in a large forest. Small orbs of different colored lights lit up the small clearing we stood in. A log had lights around it, and a smooth wood ring rested on top.
"Woah," I breathed, my eyes wide.
"Sophie, did you follow me?" Y/n asked, a small smile on her s/c face. I blushed a bit.
"Yes. You looked sad, and Keefe said something was off. I just wanted to make sure everything is okay," I explained shyly. Y/n closed her eyes, pain on her face.
"That's very kind of you, but I think I'll be okay. I'm a big girl," she joked with a bitter smile.
"What happened, Y/n," I gently took her hand in a timid move. Y/n stared at our joined hands and grinned. She sat on the grass, pulling me with her.
"Stina Heks and I were best friends. We stuck together through everything. And then when we were Level Ones, she just stopped," Y/n muttered, frowning.
"Stopped what," I prompted cautiously.
"She stopped talking to me. She stopped hanging out with me. She stopped wanting to be my friend. Stina had burned the bridge I was desperately trying to hang on to. Suddenly these- these airheads," her voice was laced with venom, "began following her around. They pretended to be her friends. They were using her. They didn't care like I did.
"Well, I thought the dance would be the perfect night to fix our friendship... and maybe turn it into something... more. I loved her, Sophie. I still love her even though she's ripped my heart out and destroyed it. And I hate that.
"I asked Stina to the dance two days ago. She said yes. Thinking back on it, I suppose she was just desperate," Y/n laughed bitterly. "Oh, Sophie, you should have seen her. She was so beautiful. So freaking beautiful. We got to the dance, and she saw the guy who she originally wanted to go with alone. Stina stood me up in the middle of the dance."
"I'm sorry, N/n," I rubbed the hurt girl's back. "I'm so sorry." I couldn't understand how she could like Stina, but she really seemed to.
"I set this up for after the dance. I was going to confess, Sophie. Asked her to be my girlfriend. That's what this was for," she showed me the ring. "It's a promise ring. It used to be my mom's. Dad gave it to her when they first started dating."
I pulled Y/n to her feet. She stared at me curiously, a small smile on her lips.
"You'll find the right person, N/n. I promise," I said, offering her my pinky. Y/n giggled and slid her pinky around mine.
"May I have this dance," Y/n bowed dramatically, holding her hand out and winking at me.
"Of course," I beamed, taking the hand. Y/n wrapped her arms around my waist and my own went around her neck. We gently swayed back and forth, Y/n humming a song for us.

"Goodnight, Sophie," Y/n mumbled. She was dropping me off at Havenfield.
"Goodnight-" I was cut off from the shock of Y/n's soft lips touching my forehead.
"I hope to see you soon, darling," Y/n had a smirk on her face as she held her home crystal up to the light. Just before stepping into the light beam, she sent a wink my way.
