One day, while Janessa Quincy's parents, John and Lily Quincy, were driving to her dance competition, there was an accident.

"Janessa, a word please?" her dance coach asked her nervously.

"What happened, Miss Collins?" Janessa's azure blue eyes widened innocently.

"I'm afraid... your parents and older brother have... gotten into a car accident. Your uncle is here to pick you up. Your parents, um, didn't make it. I'm sorry, Janessa." Miss Collins said, placing a hand on Janessa's shoulder.

Janessa choked on a sob and fled back into the room with all her team mates, trembling.

"Are you okay, Janessa?" One of the girls her age asked her.

Cindy, a teenage girl in Janessa's class, sneered. "Probably just sad Miss Collins didn't choose her solo like the spoiled brat she is. Isn't that right, Q-Tip?"

Janessa's body shook with sobs as she just turned and went to her bag, taking out her immaculate bun violently and then starting to leave the room. She walked up to Cindy and looked her dead in the eye. "I'm not crying over some stupid solo. I just found out my parents were in a car crash and my parents died which means I'm an orphan now, so, you know what, Cindy? Rot in hell." Janessa spat, turning and storming out of the room.

Once Janessa saw Mr Forkle, she rushed into his arms and wept. "They're gone."

"I know." Mr Forkle wrapped his arms around her and, unnoticed, a tear ran down his cheek at the pain she was going through

The next day, he began explaining the story of her creation, much to the wide-eyed, sorrowful girl's distress.

"So, we're not human?" The white-haired 8-year-old asked again. "Sorry, you've said a lot of weird things, and I'm confused."

The bloated man sighed. "No, Ms Quincy. We're elves."

"And, you and your weird club created me and this Sophie girl, but I was an accident because you made a mistake." Janessa nodded slowly, reaching up to touch her face as her lower lip quivered. "I guess it makes sense. I mean I always knew there had to be an explanation for my weirdness and my superpower. But it was just you guys doing a science experiment." Janessa's voice broke on the last word.

"You're not an experiment, Janessa." The man tried to soothe her.

Janessa flinched away from him. "Oh yeah, I'm not even that. I'm just the extra twin you didn't know what to do with so you took me from my birth family because you were scared my weirdness would bring the moonlark too much attention and couldn't even save the backup family you found for me from dying!"

The man looked down guiltily. "I'm sorry, Janessa."

"Stop saying you're sorry because you're  not!" The girl snapped, eyes blazing with fury as flames licked her clenched fists. She took a deep breath, releasing her a sob in her exhale. "I'm sorry, Mr Forkle. I just... Nothing. I understand why you had to take me away. I'm dangerous."

"It's okay. You're going to be okay." Mr Forkle placed a shaky, soothing hand on Janessa's shoulder and she threw herself into his arms, surprising the man.

"I'm scared Mr Forkle. What if I can't control the fire? What if I hurt someone?" The girl sobbed.

"You are going to be okay. I'll help you learn, and if you want, I'll take you to one of our hideouts to live." Mr Forkle told her.

Janessa nodded weakly. "But, what about school? And dance? And everything else?"

"You don't need to do those things anymore."

"But, am I still allowed to?" Janessa wondered.

Mr Forkle looked at the girl confusedly. Why would she want to stay in the human world at all? Nonetheless, he agreed, and the next few years were spent commuting between the human world and the Black Swan base, Alluveterre.
