Accidental Attractions

Chapter fifteen

Hospitals are annoying as fuck. Just thought I would share my opinion seeing as how it's correct. Both me and JJ are packing to leave right now and I couldn't be more excited. Reid and Morgan are helping me while Garcia and Rossi are assisting my fiancé. Oooh, I like the way that sounds. Fiancé, I have a fiancé. And she's a she! Wow my life is way different then I thought it'd be. But I'm happy and my soon to be wife is happy, the only dilemma is the parents. Oof.

We are both cleared for work three days after leaving the hospital. Which means we get three days to ourself. Or so I thought.

We were sitting on the couch in our beautiful apartment. Emphasis on the our. We have a blanket and some ice cream while watching some pretty little liars. The show is very frustrating but JJ likes it so I'll just have to suck it up. This is awesome, laying here with my fiancé in our home with three days to ourselves. "We've been watching pll for three hours, do you-" I was beginning to ask JJ a question before I was interrupted by a knocking sound. It was the door. JJ and I looked at each other then back at the door. It was her parents.

"What are we gonna do we are a mess right now!" I whisper. She lifts her shoulders innocently then stands up to walk towards the door. I clean as much as the food up as possible  before she opens the door to reveal a pair of older, blonde, folks who greet her with hugs and kisses and whines of how much they've missed her.

"JJ! It's been too long sweetie, we've missed you." Her mother said kissing her on the cheek. It's amazing how JJ seemed completely calm in this situation, knowing what's eventually going to happen.

Her father then also says how he's missed her then disses her for not visiting. Then all eyes are on the stranger standing on their child's living room. "Um, hi, my name is Emily, Emily Prentiss. I'm JJ'a coworker." I say, regretting it immediately. We look at it each other, I squint as to try and avoid the look she's giving me. "Ahh, coworker, so that means you also work for the behavioral analysis into with Jaje over here."" Yes ma'am." I reply "we both really enjoy being SSA's."

After I said that, both her parents faces turned confused. What did I say? Did I do something wrong already? Damn it I knew I would do this. "Your an SSA? And you didn't tell us?" Her father said sounding disappointed that his daughter withheld this kind of information. "Well I have a distinct memory of telling mom over the phone, but whatever."  JJ looked at me then rolled her eyes. Her mom looked confused as she was trying to recall such an important phone conversation with her only living daughter.

Her dad trued to change the subject by looking back to JJ and I. "So, what are y'all ladies doing
Today?" Again JJ looks in my direction. Her eyes looking at me like they were telling me to speak no more. "Um well, you see dad..." her parents looked confused as to why it was taking her so long to spit it out. "-We were celebrating." She said looking disappointed in herself for backing out.

"Celebrating what, might I ask." We then go to speak at the same time-"our proposal." "Getting out of the hospital." She looks at me with disbelief as we have just admitted we are fiancés. "Did you just say, proposal." Her dad said, looking at me dead in the eye, seemingly emotionless. "Yes-" the first word came out nervous sounding and squeaky so I adjust my posture and stiffened my voice. "-sir. I proposed to your daughter and she said yes." Wowzers I'm nervous. Especially since as I kept talking, he got closer and closer to me.

Both parents looked stunned with the news. The room was silent. The first person to speak up was JJ. " We've known each other for over eight years and have been dating for like eight months, we got engaged yesterday morning, and we are getting married in the spring in Hawaii." she said it all in one sentence, hoping that it would be enough to spark dialogue with her parents.

"Well I Uh, I don't know what to say." Her mom spoke second. Her father then also speaks up. "I do. I am so very happy for you. I'm happy that you love someone, and you've decided to spend the rest of your life with them. I'm also happy you chose someone who could protect you if need be." He finished, smiling at the both of them. "Ya, em is really good at protecting me. The other night she took a knife in the waist trying to save me." JJ said with doe eyes as she walks in my direction and grabs my hand to hold. Her mother slightly scowls.

"Do have anything to say mom?" JJ asks her silent mother. Her mother nods and steps forward a bit. "Although I do not believe in your lifestyle, I am still very delighted you have found someone who makes you happy. And I will be at the wedding in spring, you can bet on it." JJ releases her grasp on my hand to run and hug her parents. This definitely went better than expected and it was truly time to celebrate. Her father then walks to me slowly. And gives me a hug as well. "You take care of our girl, alright. She needs someone strong like you in her life, especially when things get rough. I'm so happy for the both of you." He says bringing me back into another hug. We are then joined by JJ and her mother in a Prentiss-Jereau family hug. Oh wait,
I just thought about our names. Are we going to hyphenate? I guess that's and issue for another day.
