Wow. Like JJ said I'm also having serious déjà vu. Although both EMTs are women this time. They are both talking to me calmly while also saying stuff about random medical shit that I don't really understand. It's a bit warm in here. The sirens are pretty loud, and I can feel we are going fast. The bumps on the road really hurt when we hurtle over them at whatever speed we are moving.
It feels like it's been an hour since first getting in the ambulance, but that could just be my shitty tracking of time. JJ always makes fun of me for that. I'm very impatient and I guess that's why I unintentionally exaggerate when telling the time, I don't know that's what JJ says at least.
The atmosphere of the ambulance was becoming more calm and collected and I would assume that means I'm stable. I'm sure it's just a flesh wound I'll be fine. But JJ, I don't know if she'll be fine. The unsub got her good. I don't know what I would do without her. I love her, and only her. I'm this old and she's the first person I've fallen in love with. I don't know what I'll do.
But I don't have to think like that. She is going to be ok. She's going to be released in time for dinner tomorrow where I'll get Rossi to make her favorite meal. Then I'll propose to her like I wanted to originally. With flowers and Disney playing in the background. Delicious food and wonderful dresses. And then we will get married, simple as that. She says yes and that's it. The rest of my life begins.
But I'm realizing know that neither of us have told our parents. We are this close to getting engaged and none of our parents even know we are gay. What the hell? How could we have let that slide for this long?
"Ok we're here. Let's lower her down gently." The blonde EMT says to the red head. "I'm fine there's no need to be gentle, just be quick. I'm not hurt that bad I should be in and out." The EMTs look at each other in a bit of disbelief while also dismissing the comment. They wheel me into the ER where they begin to tell a team of doctors what's the matter with me.
That's when I see JJ. Down the hall, being rushed to an elevator. I can't tell if she is awake or not. In fact I cant tell if she's dead or not. I would've kept thinking like that if the doctors around me weren't being all weird. "What is the matter? Just take it out and stick me up so I can be on my way." I say, a little agitated. "Mam, we have to take you to surgery. The knife is lodged between two of your ribs, while also digging into some vital organs. The surgery should be simple but extensive. We will have to remove the knife but also repair damages to organs and your ribs." Says one of the new doctors that accumulated around my stretcher. "What no! I have to be awake, in the waiting room. I can't be in surgery when she wakes up!" I say, getting more frazzled by the second.
"Who are you waiting for? We can get her information and stats for when you wake up. Just tell me the names and I'll assign an intern to getting her information for you." The doctor said rather calmly while motioning to a much younger doctor with a notepad to get ready to write down the name I was to tell them.
"Uh- Supervisory special agent Jennifer Jereau. She has also been stabbed. She's my future fiancé and I need to know if she is ok." I say becoming less frustrated with the efforts of the helpful doctors. "Ok mam know we need to get you to surgery ok?" I just noticed that we were moving practically the whole time we were talking. I was so caught up with JJ that I hadn't a clue. And honestly I don't know where we are.
I heard someone say OR, which means I'm about to get cut for the second time today. "Alright miss...?" "Prentiss" I say. "Miss Prentiss, count down from ten for me please." She says while placing a mask blowing cool air over my face. "Ten, nine, eight, seven, six,— five ——-four————-three..." and then I'm out, everything is dark, and I can relax.
"Guys she's waking up." I hear a familiar voice say. I open my eyes to see my family all around me, just like when I was shot. "Oh hey guys, this situation feel softly familiar." I say jokingly. They weren't all amused, Reid and Garcia let out a chuckle though. "How's JJ doing is she ok?" I ask, coming back into the reality of my situation.
"She's stable does right now. So please tell us how you are doing." Hotch says, as stern as always. "Ya ya, I'm fine. It wasn't that bad the surgery was just to remove the knife it's no biggy. Now tell me more about JJ if you don't mind."
We talked for around twenty minutes, about the case, JJ, how they contacted JJ's parents. Then comes the part of what I did. "It is mandatory that you go through basic hostage, and victim rescue courses as punishment for last night." Hotch says, the faces around the room becoming a little less happy. "Ya, that's what I thought would happen." I say.
Reid and Garcia stay in my room with me until I fall asleep. Hotch and Morgan had work, and Rossi had to take an important phone call. I fell asleep quickly, I guess because I was still a bit drowsy. I was awoken next by a couple nurses who performed some test in my while Reid and Penelope watched. I interrogated them heavily until they told me what room JJ was in. I then made one of them get me a wheelchair and point me in the right direction.
It was kinda early in the morning, the lights were still dim. Not many people were awake. The halls were quiet besides some beeping machines and the occasional speaking over the intercom. I've made it to JJ's doorway. I'm not gonna lie I'm a bit nervous. I don't know what she'll look like, if she'll be awake or not. I decide to just go for it and I entered her room as quietly as I can trying not to disturb her.
"You know you are terrible at being quiet." "Jaje, oh my god are you ok? How do you feel? You know your parents are coming right? What are we going to tell them?" I shoot the questions at her like a lightning round on a game show, barely taking a breath. She then calmly responds with "I'm feeling fine, my abdomen is a bit sore but that is to be expected. Yes I know my parents are coming, they always contact the close family members of an agent when they are critically injured. I haven't really thought about what we are going to say about us but I guess we just wing it and say we are fiancés."
She said fiancés. Yes! Oh my god yes. I smile to myself after hearing her speak those words. I know she sees me because she grabs my hand and kisses it. She holds it closer to her body and she smiles. "I'm so glad you didn't die Agent Jereau." I say jokingly. She grins wider. "I feel the same Agent Prentiss." Then we lean in and share a long awaited celebratory kiss. We did both survive a slashing, and after all, she is my fiancé now.
