I'm afraid

The day that everything went to shit started normally. Stella woke up and regretted it, she got dressed and ready, looked at herself in the mirror and left her room. Greetings to everyone but her brothers were given and longing looks were exchanged between her and Katherine.

Tutoring made her want to stab herself in the eyes and ears, the usual lunch she had fulfilled her adequately and more tutoring made her want to commit harm to both herself and the teacher.

Everything and everyone was normal, nothing was out of place but Stella couldn't help but shake the dread that was building up in the base of her stomach. Katherine had cornered hours ago, and they had a slip up where Katherine's lips accidentally found her own and they both accidentally moved them against each other until footsteps walking closer were heard from the opposite room. The hand she had underneath Katherine's skirt quickly left it's seemingly permanent place and they detached from each other like they were being pulled by marionette strings.

This was becoming more common after Katherine saw the friendly kiss on the cheek that she shared with Emily, unknown to Stella, Katherine wanted to stop the toying with her brothers and start committing to the other girl. Katherin had never felt like this with anyone, and she didn't want to mess it up any more than she did.

Going into Stefan's room she was meant to break things off and then do the same with Damon, however, she took one last bite and then her throat started to burn uncontrollably from the vervain. The door burst open, and Giuseppe Salvatore strode in to see Katherine writhing in pain on the floor while Stefan leaned over her shirtless with an angry bite mark on his shoulder.

The older man began to urge his son to get the sheriff, their earlier conversation about vampires and humanity being at the forefront while Katherine still moved in pain. It was the yelling and Stefan's fast approaching footsteps past her hiding spot just outside the room that spurred Stella into action. She entered the room and watched as the girl she loved let out pitiful gasps with blood covering the lower half of her face, her father barely looked up at her approach.

"You need to go back to bed, girl. This is no place for you." Her father spat at her while still focusing on Katherine and her slow movements.

"Why are you just sitting there while she's in pain?!" Stella unknowingly yelled while trying to find a cloth to clear away what she thought was Katherine's blood. When she got closer to both of the occupants of the room to help, her father lashed out and slapped her hand away.

"Don't touch her!"

"She needs help!"

"You don't know what she is!" Giuseppe yelled back and watched as his daughter got a startled look to her face while still holding the handkerchief. "All those little perverse amorous dealings that you thought were secret, you would think that she would have told you the monster she really is." As his words hit her, Stella moved back and cradled her own arms around herself for comfort. Katherine has stopped moving and the cloth she had was slowly falling from her loosened grip.

"How dare you!" Stella's anger came out full force once the flippant and dismissive tone of her father hit her ears.

"Don't talk back to me, girl. You're just as bad as your brothers, why couldn't you just be normal!"

"I despise you!" Stella yelled into his face and did not manage to avoid his fist that connected with her left cheek before she could even process that his hand had moved. The force of his hit forced the Salvatore girl onto the ground where her hand tried to stop the bleeding that his ring had caused on her cheekbone.

She was still in shock and looking into Katherine's fearful brown eyes from their position on the floor did not help her confidence in their chances of escaping the house unscathed. At least not together.

Hours moved by in a blur and once Stella became aware of her own body and consciousness she was inside a building.

She didn't recognize it and her head felt woozy, a blur of bodies and blood ran through her hazy memory while she looked at her surroundings. Her shirt was slightly torn and the muscles within her body were sore from overexertion.

These technicolor memories were playing in flashes within her minds eye. The look in Katherine's eyes as they both watched each other helplessly was something she had never forgot, and her mind never let her either.

The taste of blood on her tongue was persistent and she wondered who unluckily coated her teeth. Finally standing, Stella noticed the cold draft that swept throughout the entire room and the stone walls that surrounded her.

There were no visible exits and Stella's hackles raised as no audible sounds hit her ears, no matter how much she strained. If there was one thing that was ever present, it was the sound of a bird or at least an owl, but there was just silence.

Stella walked further into the room and found a door, once she reached for the handle and opened it, sounds hit her full force.

Without thinking into it any further Stella meandered her way through the forest. It was still dark but the emerging dusk light was coming as she finally found civilization.

Finding a random house was easy and compelling the family that lived there was even easier. She was able to freshen up and get rid of the various bloodstains on her body and steal some clothes from the oldest sibling in the house.

Making her way out of the suburban house she stole a car and drove mindlessly.

Katherine on her mind, but what else was new.
