Chapter 1
She'sss a de'mujo now...let'ssss join her... the hissing voice whispered in my mind over and over, a constant reminder that I failed her. I clenched my eyes shut willing the voice to go away and the pulsing urge in my veins to let the parasite consume me.
I can't. I promised. I made a vow.
Jusst let me out. The sinister voice danced inside my mind. I groaned covering my ears pressing my face into the damp dirt floor.
LET ME OUT! The voice roared, white hot pain shot through my veins, shaking me to my core.
"NO!" I roared back, curling into a ball, digging my fingers into my hair as I fought the beast clawing inside of me to be released.
"I am Mercatijan. I will remain Mercatijan." I began whispering the words over and over as the pulsing rage burned inside of me. I clenched my teeth from the pain and focused my mind on her. On Jazmine. My dejaina.
I can hear her faint laughter and her bright violet eyes filled my mind, pushing against the parasite threatening to take over. Her laughter grew louder further muffling the sinister voice.

"You could've at least given them a chance." Jazmine laughed as she walked up next to me at the dart throwing game.
"I never back down from a challenge." I shrugged but that smirk and grin on her face made my heart thump in my chest. She looked away from me and signalled the gamekeeper.
"I want to challenge him." She said and I nearly gawked at her. That was not what I was expecting from her. Mercatijan women don't do things like this, they don't engage in warrior-like games.
"Are you sure, Bella?" The gamekeeper asked looking at me and I shrugged again. I'm intrigued by my dejaina, this should be an interesting challenge. Too bad she won't win.
"Ladies first." I grinned and she smirked throwing her first dart which thunked directly in the middle of the target.
Mm. Beginner's luck, I thought, throwing my dart and hitting the target.
"So if I throw a dart a certain way you have to match it right?"
"Yep." I nodded as and I watched her smile shooting her dart from under her arm still hitting the target. I couldn't help the laugh that escape my lips as I followed her throw hitting the mark as well. I smirked looking at her.
That was an excellent throw and this might not be beginner's luck. How is my dejaina skilled at darts? She's unlike any Mercatijan woman I've ever met. And I like it.
She held up two darts and threw them at the same time hitting, striking both on the target. I shook my head and followed, matching her throw.
"Last one, sesti, what are you going to do?"
A devilish smile spread across her plump lips as she slipped the dart in her back pocket and backed away from the table.
What in the world is she doing? I thought, watching her cute determined face. Her violet eyes were hard and focused on the bullseye. My heart clenched and tingled at that look in her eyes. She has the look of a true warrior. I sucked in a breath, I didn't think I would be this turned on by my dejaina so quickly.
She ran forward doing a cartwheel, back handspring and pulled the dart out of her back pocket and threw it at the target and it slammed right in the center.
I gawked at her, a slight blush creeping over my cheeks and my heart sizzled in my chest. She is something else.
I was too fascinated by her , I hadn't realized a crowd gathered around us. I chuckled as they burst out in applause. Color me impressed, my dejaina beat the Azarak at darts. I put my dart down and bowed to her.
"Here, you can have my prize." She smiled up at me, holding a stuffed white tiger.
I laughed, taking it from her. I had to stop myself from getting lost in those lavender pools. I know my soul is tied to hers, but I never imagined feeling this....*enamoured* by her. She is everything.
***
I let out a breath feeling the parasite's hold on me release. The sinister leech curled back under the mental chains in my mind. It's menacing whispers finally falling silent.
Don't let me go... Jazmine's faint voice danced inside my mind.
I'll never let you go, litani. I whispered, knowing she isn't speaking to me. Her voice is just a memory. She's a de'mujo now. She can't hear me anymore.
