"Eleanor! Be ready in thirty minutes!"

I laugh into the phone at Lisa's enthusiasm. I barely had time to say hi to her before she was telling me to get ready.

"Why?" I ask.

"They're showing that new action movie at the drive in, so we're going to watch it! I really think you'll like it."

I smile. "Okay. I'll go get ready."

"See you soon," she says. Then she hangs up.

I tell my mom where I'll be tonight, then head to my bedroom. I want to feel cute, so I put on a black skirt with a white shirt that has long sleeves and clings to my body.

Usually, I hardly try with my makeup. This time I put on a little more, and curl my hair.

When Lisa arrives, I grab my wallet and rush outside. She's grinning when I get in.

"So, I heard something," she tells me as she starts driving.

"What?" I wonder.

She smirks out the windshield.

"Apparently, Ace and his friends will be there. I don't know for sure, though."

"Oh," I say. So that's why she wanted to go.

The drive is long, about an hour and a half. When we arrive, she finds a pretty good place to park.

As she turns off the engine, she looks at me.

"You look really nice, by the way," she tells me.

I smile, looking at my outfit.

"Thanks. I just wanted to feel cute," I shrug.

"Well, you definitely look cute."

I'm about to answer when her eyes move off me. They flash behind me, and she tries to suppress a smile. It doesn't work well, so I turn around to see what caught her attention.

Ace is parked next to us, with his three best friends in the car with him.

When he sees me, he smiles.

"Hey, girls," he says.

Lisa answers before I get a chance to.

"Hi, Ace!"

She jumps out of the car and moves between my door and Ace's. She leans closer to him, grinning. Billy and Charlie, who are in Ace's back seat, lean together and start to whisper. Eyeball leans in to hear Lisa.

"I have a question for you," she tells Ace.

He raises an eyebrow. "Oh, yeah?"

She nods, and runs a hand through her curly hair.

"I was sort of wondering what you were doing after this. Because, um, if you aren't busy, maybe we could get together and hang out or something. Just the two of us, you know, after I take my friend home."

Ace's gaze moves to me for half a second, then he looks back at Lisa.

"As much as I'd like to take you up on your offer, I'm sort of already seeing someone. Maybe if things don't work out..."

Lisa's brown eyes pop wide open, then her cheeks flush.

"Oh! Well, who says she has to know?"

Ace bites his lip, looking at Eyeball. Eyeball is smirking at him.

"Not tonight, Lisa. Maybe another time," he finally says.

Lisa nods, sighing. "Alright."

As she's walking back to the driver's side of her own car, Ace winks at me.
