"Keep your eyes closed."

"I'm keeping my eyes closed." I laugh slightly, letting Sonny guide me down the stairs and into the living room.

"Okay wait there a sec and don't open your eyes." I feel his hands leave my arms as I hold my hands up over my eyes. I can hear his footsteps fade away and a slight rustling sound.

"Alright, you can look now."

Removing my hands and opening my eyes, I see Sonny stood in front of me, a Santa hat on his head and a large advent calendar in his hand.

"An advent calendar?" I question, slightly confused.

"Yeah, I know we don't usually like buy each other calendars but I just wanted to get you this one. Do you not like it?" He asks, his smile faltering.

"No of course, it's chocolate, why wouldn't I love it?" I smile, walking to him and wrapping my arms around his middle. "It was just a proper surprise." I say, tilting my head up to look at him.

He leans down, pressing a soft kiss against my lips before pulling away.

"Do you want to open the first one?" He asks, shaking the calendar behind me.

"Yes of course, it is the first of December after all."

Pulling away he hands me the calendar. Finding the the little number one straight away, I push the cardboard window in before pulling it back. As I pick the chocolate out, a small piece of paper falls out and onto the floor.

"What's this?" I ask, picking it up.

"Open it."

Placing my chocolate in my mouth, I begin to unfold the scrap of paper. Scrawled across in what is unmistakably Sonny's writing are the words 'I love seeing you smile'. Looking up at Sonny, I see him nervously biting on his bottom lip. A shy smile creeps onto my face, warmth flooding through me.

"You like it then?" He asks, beginning to smile too.

"I love it, thank you so much." I smile, wrapping my arms around him again, resting my head against his chest.

"I love you." He murmurs, placing his chin on my head.

"I love you too."

Each day, I opened another window and each day I received another note from Sonny. The 16th was a little out of the ordinary however, due to the lack of a chocolate and a note attached to a condom, saying 'Always use protection kids, I'm too old to be an uncle.'

"I'm guessing this is from Brook?" I ask, showing Sonny the slip of paper and condom.

"He's a twat honestly." He chuckles. "He was with me when I went and had it made as I wanted his help with something else."

"Something else?" I question.

"Yeah just something, don't worry you'll find out about it soon enough, in approximately 8 days."

"Okay then?" I place the calendar back on the shelf as I feel Sonny's arms warp around my waist.

"Trust me." He whispers, pressing a soft kiss on my shoulder.

Before long, the 24th rolls around, thankfully without any further calendar input from Brook. I go to open the last window but suddenly, it's snatched from my hands.

"Sonny, what are you doing?" I ask, confused as he holds onto it, eyes fixed on the small tear I had started to make on the 24th.

"You can open it but not right now." He says, eyes flicking back up to mine.

"Why not?"

"Just because this one's a little different and I just." He sighs, his hand reaching up to touch his ear. "Please just trust me, you can open it in a couple of hours."

"Okay?" I reply, feeling more confused.

"Brook will be here soon, come on we'd better get ready." He says, placing the calendar back before grabbing my hand and tugging me away.

The calendar slips my mind momentarily as we put on a Christmas playlist and get ready. Brook arrives and we walk down the road to the pub. Sonny gets the first round whilst me and Brook find a table, sitting down, basking in the warmth of the fire.

It does not take long until perhaps one too many drinks have been consumed and Brook is insistent on the whole pub joining in on his rendition of deck the halls, which he swears blind is 'deck the hall with bras of holly'. I lean into Sonny as we watch Brook. begging the barman for another drink.

"I think it's time we got him home."

"Yeah, I'll get him." Sonny chuckles as we watch Brook stumble back over to us.

Soon we're making our way outside, I walk ahead as Brook draws his arm around Sonny's neck. I turn around, noticing Sonny and Brook stopped a few feet behind me.

"You've got this man, don't worry." I hear Brook slur out to Sonny, gripping onto his shoulders.

Sonny whispers something back but I can't catch it, distracted by something white drifting across my gaze. Looking up, I see more snow falling down around us.

"Oh look, the clouds are cumming." Brook shouts, flinging his arms around before his legs give way and he ends up on his back.

"Come on Brook, time to get you home I think." I laugh as I walk over to them, helping Sonny get Brook on his feet again.

Half an hour later, after much struggling trying to get Brook to put one foot in front of the other, we're stepping back into the warmth of our home. Dropping Brook onto the couch, I turn to get him a blanket from the other side of the room. As I turn around, I spot my calendar. Grabbing it, I go to open the last one.

"Wait, not yet." Brook slurs, reaching to try and grab it out of my hands.

"Not you as well Brook, why can't I open the last one?" I groan.

"Need Sonny for it." He mutters.

"Yes?" I turn to see Sonny in the doorway.

"Can I please open the last one because at this rate it'll be Christmas Eve next year before either of you let me open it"

"Yes you can open it just-" I don't even wait for Sonny to finish, finally opening the last window.

"Well, do you like it?" Sonny asks.

"Sonny, I..." I trail off, taking the beautiful ring out of the calendar, noticing a slip of paper wrapped around the ring.

The calendar drops to the floor as I unravel it. Tears blur my vision but I can just make out the words 'Marry me?'

"Are you serious?" I ask, turning to see him knelt down, looking up at me.

"Is that a no?" He asks, fear flashing in his eyes.

"No you idiot of course I want to marry you." I laugh, pulling him up.

"Thank fuck for that, you had me worried then." He chuckles, taking the ring and slipping it onto my finger.

I look back up at him, seeing my stupidly wide grin mirrored. Placing my hands on his face, I pull him down, smiling into the kiss. His hands move to my thighs, gripping as I jump, my legs wrapping around him and my arms around his neck. Reluctantly, I pull away, needing to see him again, just to know this wasn't just a dream.

"I love you, so much." He breathes out.

"I love you too."

"Don't you love me too? I had to stand with him in that shop for hours while he picked it out." Brook grumbles.

"Yes we love you too Brook." Sonny laughs, placing me back in the floor before jumping onto Brook, cuddling him.

"Yes we do." I smile, letting Sonny pull me down next to him.
