Chapter 7
“Ashley,” her father yells. “Please stop fiddling with your wig and sit down in the makeup chair!”
“‘Kay,” Ashley replies with a smug smile. She prances over to the chair directly in front of her father.
Ashley Parker was currently sporting a bright red wig, but not one of those Wendy’s fake-red-head kind of reds, a bright, natural red head. Her eyes would soon be a dull, almost coppery brown. But right now, it looked like a Christmas tree took it’s revenge and grew legs.
Red hair…green eyes…no?
The red hair had been chopped into a short bob-style cut. So Ashley was pretty much unrecognizable except for the bright green eyes. But once she had her contacts, there would be absolutely no recognizing her; especially Katelyn and her little band of boys.
Her father glares at her. “I raised you better than this.”
Ashley snorted. “Coming from the man who was nearly convicted for almost murdering two people in one day? Funny.”
Ashley thought back to that day. Her father, Michael Parker, had almost been sent to jail for life.
She hadn’t known he was an attempted murderer until her mother—while she and her father were still married—had dragged her there. It was horrible. Ashley had nightmares for weeks, and weeks. The traumatized faces of the almost victims still haunts her dreams. And the horrifyingly calm demeanor of her very own father still comes back to the point she’s scared of what he might do to her.
She guesses that’s what drove her to almost—now will—rid of Katelyn Anne Wright.
Her father gives her an uncomfortable look. “I did not ‘almost murder’ them. I simply…ah…set them straight.”
“Straight to a mental hospital for life,” Ashley mutters to herself. “But with a knife, daddy?”
Outrage plasters Michael’s face. His muscles clench. He was ready to punch his daughter in the face. (A/N ANYONE WITH HIM?) But Michael simply lets out a deep breath and states through clenched teeth, “Ashley Elizabeth Parker, drop it. You’re no better than I was.”
“Oh well, daddy. At least I almost won AND I escaped from prison,” pride coats each of her words, as Ashley strung out the sentence as long as she could.
Michael collects himself. Why did his daughter have to inherit his pride and ego? “I could just as easily send you back,” he mutters to himself quietly as Ashley sits up straighter. Michael turns around and collects everything he needs from coloured eye contacts, to teeth whitening strips—her teeth we an ugly kind of yellow—to a paler foundation.
“You, Miss Parker, are going to be the embodiment of stereotypes. Pale, almost ghostly skin, red hair, dull eyes, no soooooul.” Michael chuckles at his own joke as he strolls back over to Ashley’s chair. “Should we make this one a surprise?”
Ashley smiles smugly. “Yes, father dear. Spin me around and do as you please.”
Katelyn bit away at her pinky fingers nail. She was terrified. Katelyn knew that Ashley was psychotic, and was ultimately sure that Ashley would track her down…and attempt murder…again! That was enough to scare someone into not sleeping for the rest of their lives.
