She stepped her bare feet silently on the cold wooden floor. She didn't have to turn on the lamp as she knew the interior of the house so well as if it were her own. She didn't even bother wearing slippers or do anything in general. She strode to the library and sighed when the cold air and emptiness welcomed her.
Her mood was so foul despite all the majority of people celebrating the day. The colorful illuminations; beautifully designed Christmas tree; streets that were packed with couples; laughter in every corner of the house; all of that seemed so alien to her state.
She forgot how it feels like being in the empty house because lately, she didn't have to turn on the light and the heater since someone would be there before her. Someone that would beam up at her cheerily and said "Okaeri, Ran-neechan" with his high-pitched childish voice. Someone that was so dear to her since they were 7 years old and that warmth had never changed even after 10 years of being together. Well, that would be 11 years counting the year he was there as Conan-kun.
Yeah, Conan-kun. Conan-kun as in Shinichi.
Didn't matter which of his name she should call him with, since that person wouldn't call her back. She was waiting for him to be back. Really, all she could do was just to wait.In agony.
She wondered herself just how did she get by each day after that?
Ah, she was no good.
No matter how she wished to turn back time, no matter how she regretted it, she had let him go. Despite fully knowing he might not be able to come back, she let him go.
The realization hit her so bad that made her crouched down on the floor, unable to contain hiccups and streams of tears escaping her already puffy eyes.
"Shinichi..."
Was the one word that can break her heart so much, yet she couldn't stop herself from calling his name over and over, hoping he would be there to reciprocate her feelings.
"Shinichi"
If only Santa were real, she just had one thing to wish for.
"Shinichi!"
Her voice echoed inside the big chamber, making it hard to ignore the shrill and desperation etched within.
She tried so hard to be a good girl, to contain it all, patiently waiting for her gift, but she was on the verge of breaking apart.
That was, until she heard someone calling her name
"Ran"
That simple, one word was enough to stiffened her and made the time seemed still.
The voice, the tone, his way of speaking her name with such deep emotion and caring gestures, it was like a miracle finally happened to her.
Her gift.
She finally found him.
