The last couple of days Jangmi worked hard to learn everything there was to learn in the music shop. After four days she finally got the hang out of tuning guitars and violins. Apart from that she learned how to deal with specific questions from customers and gained some basic knowledge about artists that the owner felt like she should know well.
She was really enjoying the work in the shop. Listening to music all day and discovering new artists and songs wasn't exactly something to complain about. The owner, Mr. Yun, grew very fond of Jangmi and enjoyed her company. They talked a lot, and he shared a lot of his wisdom with her which she gratefully received.
Her first week in Seoul had flown by, and she felt very happy. Now she was going to take the next step and actually start with university. As she packed up her bag in the morning, she felt sick to her stomach. She had attended uni in her hometown for two years already, so she was familiar with the system but yet this was far more nerve wrecking considering she didn't know anyone.
The last couple days she didn't come across her neighbor at all which she was really thankful for. He hadn't bothered her again after the elevator incident. All that she heard from him, was loud rock music playing in his apartment. At first, it really annoyed her, and she was even tempted to knock on his door and tell him to turn the music down, but she decided against it, thinking it was better to stay away from him. He didn't appear to be the type to really care what other's thought. Actually he appeared to not care about anything at all.
Taking one last look in the mirror, she decided she was ready to go. She had opted for a pair of light washed denim jeans and a casual flannel shirt. Wearing her lucky white converse shoes, she made her way to campus. Sadly the campus wasn't in walking distance from her apartment so that she would have to catch the bus. Last minute she made it to the bus stop and had a second to catch her breath before the bus arrived, and she squeezed herself through the mass of people to find a spot to stand. With struggle, she managed to move to the middle compartment, the window side and grabbed one of the free handles dangling from the ceiling. She hadn't had the time to take in her surroundings to notice that her neighbor stood close by to her. He had his earphones plugged in and was casually leaning against the window, looking outside. She noticed that he had dyed his hair strawberry blonde, which surprised her a lot. He was wearing a black beanie that covered most of his hair so that she couldn't make much of his new hair. It looked very good on him though from what she could tell, she had to admit. He was a handsome young man in general, she also had to admit. Too sad that he had a shitty personality because that ruined everything for him. Feeling that she had been staring too long, she adverted her gaze from him. He hadn't noticed her, seemingly lost in his own thoughts.
Yoongi had been struggling a lot these past days. He felt he was going to go insane if he didn't find a new occupation for himself. So out of boredom he dyed his own hair one night and went to get another ear-piercing during a sleepless night. These days that familiar tune was haunting him, ringing in his head constantly. It was driving him crazy. In order to silence that tune, he was listening to loud heavy metal songs. But it only helped so much. The days felt too long and dreadful. He needed to desperately distract himself. Currently, he was on his way to meet a couple acquaintances. Occasionally he visited a boxing club to throw some punches and release some of his anger and aggression. He felt the time had yet again come to pay the place a visit. Maybe he could knock this tune out of his head there.
The bus halted and a major amount of people got off. Yoongi watched them hurry off the bus, when his eyes landed on her. Jangmi followed the mass and got off. He watched her walk up the stairs that led to the entrance of Seoul University. This must be her first day, he guessed. He hadn't seen her around for a while, and he didn't mind that at all. Thankfully she hadn't been making too much noise lately or maybe he just couldn't hear because of the aggressive music blaring from his speakers in his apartment. He had expected her to show up at his door any moment, but she never did. It wasn't like he would have actually opened the door but still he would have loved to know that he was annoying the crap out of her. Maybe he could even get her to move out if tried.
As the bus drove off, Yoongi stopped looking after her and turned back to the window.
Jangmi sat in the huge hall whit all of the other students. It was very noisy as everyone was chatting away with their neighbors. The excitement and nervousness lingered in the air. Sat alone, Jangmi felt out of place. She missed her best friend Jisoo next to her and felt anxious about the whole situation. Just as she was about to pull her phone out to text Jisoo, she saw from the corner of her eye that someone was approaching her.
"Can I sit with you ?" the blue haired boy asked, smiling softly at her. Jangmi's mouth almost dropped as her eyes met with his gorgeous brown eyes. Sheepishly nodding her head yes, the boy seated himself next to her. He had a heart shaped face, a prominent jawline and plump pink lips. This man in front of her was drop dead gorgeous and Jangmi felt unable to look away.
"My name is Taehyung, by the way" he introduced himself. And he was polite too, she noted in her mind.
"Jangmi" she replied shortly, smiling back at him shyly.
"Are you a new student? I don't think I have seen you around campus before"he stated and Jangmi nodded in confirmation.
"Yes, I am new. I actually just moved here a week ago" she informed him, and he nodded his head, understanding.
"You probably haven't gotten the chance to make new friends yet, I'm guessing" he stated. Jangmi was struggling a lot not to stare at his beautiful face too much.
"Yeah, you are right, but I am sure I will catch up on that here" she reassured him, and he encouragingly smiled at her, his dimples showing.
"What are you majoring in ?" he then asked her.
"English literature" she answered, "I am not totally new though, I studied four semesters in Busan. So I am more of continuing my studies here in Seoul."
"Ah," Taehyung said surprised, "Why did you decide to switch unis, weren't you happy with the last one ?" Jangmi felt unable to form words for a second as she thought about how to express her reason without coming across as a spoiled brat. Taehyung though took this silence as a sign of having made her feel uncomfortable.
"Uh- I mean, you don't have to answer if it's too personal" he quickly added, trying to make up for his mistake. Jangmi heartily laughed at his helpless facial expression, making him widen his eyes as he tried to interpret her reaction. He was cute too, she added to her list in her mind.
"No,it's fine" she finally declared to ease his stress, he instantly seemed to relax as he chuckled too. "I just wasn't sure how to explain it well."
"Ah, okay" he replied, understanding. "Just say whatever comes to mind, I won't judge, I promise."
She smiled thankfully at him, feeling comfortable enough to give him an honest response.
"I didn't want to rely on my parents anymore. I guess, I wanted to test myself and try something new just by myself. Become more independent" she elaborated and Taehyung listened to her intently with a half smile.
"That was my reason for moving to Seoul too" he admitted and Jangmi felt her eyes light up.
"Really?" she asked him, very interested to hear his story. But before he could reply, the principal of the uni came on stage and sudden silence fell in the hall. Taehyung laughed softly, as his words were cut off. Leaning closer to you, he whispered "I will tell you all about it later on."
Jangmi felt her heart flutter as she felt his breath on her face. Nodding her head in agreement, she tried to hide her blush by looking away from him and fixing her eyes on the stage.
Meanwhile, Yoongi was wrapping his fists, getting ready for the boxing ring. He felt especially angry today, so he was pretty sure he would get a good session in.
„How have you been ?" Jiho, one of Yoongi's acquaintances, asked and Yoongi shrugged his shoulders, eyes on his hands.
„The usual" he said, whatever that would mean to Jiho. Yoongi didn't care to share much with anyone. That is why he didn't call anyone his friend, they were just acquaintances for him. Jiho might think of Yoongi as a friend, but Yoongi certainly didn't. He didn't need friends. In the end of the day he would be the only one there for himself and even he couldn't show up for himself at times.
"You should come to the party tonight" Jiho suggested, "Get wasted and maybe even get some good action if you know what I mean."
Yoongi rolled his eyes at him, slipping on his boxing gloves once he had bandaged his knuckles."Some frat party again ?" he lazily asked.
"Yup, but it should be fun. The opening once for the new semester are usually the wildest. A lot of new students will be there, which means that we will get to see new hotties too" Jiho smugly smirked, clearly having his night already planned out in detail. Usually Yoongi preferred getting wasted at a bar, but he was desperately in need of a change in scenery, so he actually agreed to meet Jiho there.
"Yes man, we will have a real great time, I promise" he assured Yoongi. Waving him off, Yoongi got up from the bank he was sitting on.
"Now stop talking off my ear and get on the ring. Imma beat your ass" Yoongi said and climbed on the ring, clapping his gloves together.
"We are feeling very sure of ourselves today, huh ?" Jiho teased, as he slipped on his own gloves and entered the ring as well.
Yoongi grew very serious and concentrated well on his fists. He was the one to throw the first punch. Jiho dodged it last second, as Yoongi had taken him by surprise for acting so quick. He understood that he wasn't here for fun and games, he wanted a real match. The change of atmosphere was scary.
The aggression that burned in Yoongi was aflame. He moved way too quick and aggressively threw punches, not really coordinating or using techniques. All he wanted was to hit someone, hurt someone. Jiho was pretty skilled himself, so after taking a few punches he stepped up his game and skillfully dodged Yoongi's blind punches. Yoongi's short temper was something he was familiar with, so he used it against him. Whilst Yoongi was focused on acting quick, he forgot to properly defend himself. This gave Jiho the perfect opportunity to land a couple hooks. Yoongi's lip busted and blood dripped from his chin.
"Yo bro, we should take it slow" Jiho told Yoongi, who wiped the blood off with the back of his arm.
"Boys, easy" the trainer yelled from across the room, before he dedicated his attention to his client again.
"It's nothing, just keep going" Yoongi said, putting up his hands in front of his face again and getting back into position. Jiho had experienced this dangerous attitude of Yoongi a couple times before. He sometimes pushed his limits too much. But he knew there was no way of talking him out of it. He wanted to feel the pain. This man was fearless.
Yoongi threw a powerful straight punch to Jiho's abdomen, having him double over for a short moment before he quickly returned to covering his face. It felt good to center his strength and energy in one spot and release it all with one solid hit. Whenever his fists collided with Jiho's body, Yoongi felt a rush. The adrenaline was pumping through his veins, making him feel lightheaded.
Jiho was picking up on his pace as well and throwing more frequent punches. He aimed and hit three times in a row. Taking punches oddly felt even better. The pain pulsing through his body made him momentarily forget about time and space. He liked that. But the tune was still there, ringing in the back of his mind. A soft and tender melody that took him on a journey every time he heard it. Images were rapidly flashing before his eyes.
Delicate fingers on his face,
the keys of the piano,
one hand on the steering wheel the other on her thigh,
the moon partially hidden behind clouds,
a bright blinding light.
The melody grew louder and louder in his ears, blocking out the noises around him. His vision darkened, and he lost the touch in his fingers. Wildly beating heart and ragged breathing, had his head spinning.
A hard jab right to the middle of his face, knocked him down, white noise filling his ears and putting him to sleep.
