When things seem to be going really well, it had always been really unsettling to Yoongi. He didn't trust the heavens. A moment of peace and relief was always only meant to be the calm before the storm. He had learned this due to two occasions in his life. The first was when his dad had first stopped drinking for a week and the second was when he had fallen in love with her.
The second occasion had been the most significant one because the day she disappeared, he had sworn to never expect any good in life ever again. The world was cruel, and he was just not meant to be happy in this life. Yoongi had learned his lesson. Now there was nothing that could disappoint him anymore.
But Jangmi hadn't yet gotten a taste of what life could really be like.
The next morning she woke up to 14 text messages from Taehyung and 4 missed calls. The happenings of the night before played out in her mind, and she heaved a sigh, wishing she could erase them from her memory.
"It's nothing Jangmi" she told herself, "You won't let those bastards shatter your self-esteem."
She replied to Taehyung, apologizing for leaving without letting him know and promised to explain herself later in person. Getting up from her bed, she went out to her balcony to collect her laundry and get some fresh air. The morning breeze felt nice and the peaceful silence in the streets somewhat made her feel like everything was going to be okay. Mustering up some courage again, she was able to shake off the bad memories. Glancing at Yoongi's window, she saw that his curtains were still drawn close. He was probably sleeping in again.
Deciding not to spare him any more thoughts, she fell back into her morning routine. Routines were nice when it came to take her mind off things. There was still a lot of things she needed to take care of. The payment for next month's rent was due, and she also needed to get her heater fixed. Apart from that she also needed to register for some additional courses in college to get extra credits to make up for what she lacked.
As she went to turn on the lights in her bathroom, the light bulb popped and the room was engulfed in darkness after a short moment of lightning.
"Are you kidding me" Jangmi muttered, grabbing her phone and turning on its flashlight. "I can't believe this."
She took a quick shower and brushed her teeth. After she had gotten dressed, she felt a little bit better. Opening the notes in her phone, she added "buy a light bulb" to her already endless seeming to do list. When she opened her fridge to see what she could make herself for breakfast, she was surprised to see that she had run out of almost everything.
"But didn't I get groceries just the other day?" she wondered to herself, frowning at the empty insides of the fridge. She never had to worry about an empty fridge before. Her mom always made sure it was filled to the brim. She suddenly felt a pang in her chest, and she felt homesick. She longed for a warm hug from her mother. Closing the refrigerator, she sat down on a chair at her small kitchen table.
"Jangmi, get a grip. You are not 12 anymore. It's no big deal. Just grab a bite to eat on your way to uni" she then told herself, not allowing herself to dwell in these negative emotions. She got ready and left a little earlier than usual.
She hurried down the stairs, afraid to meet anyone in the staircase after what had happened to her. When she was finally outside the building, she felt relieved. Putting in her earphones, she listened to some music to calm her tense nerves. As soon as she stumbled across the first convenience store, she stopped by to get herself something to eat. She bought a sandwich and a coffee to go but before she went to the checkout, she actually counted her coins to make sure she had enough. It felt bad to worry about money, she realized.
