Walking out of the bathroom I tried to be quiet in case anyone was sleeping. I could hear all the noise that Jackson was making in the kitchen. I wondered how well he knew to cook because back in the day he couldn't cook to save his life. I walked back into the kitchen and saw he was tearing everything apart.

"I can take over for you if you want to eat anytime soon. I just need you to go sit on the stool."

"Yea I can do that."

He put the pan down and walked over to the stool and sat down. I started by getting the eggs out and then finding a medium mixing bowl. I figured I would make scrambled eggs that way if anyone else showed up there would be enough for everyone.

"I'm going to run to my room for a second. I can see you have things under control here."

I gave my head a shake and a little laugh and watched him walk to his room. I grabbed a few more ingredients from around the kitchen and started mixing it all together. I waited until the butter was perfectly melted in the pan before I poured in the egg mixture. While that started to cook, I put some bread in the toaster. I heard a bedroom door open and close and footsteps heading my way. I put my attention back to the eggs that started to solidify and ran my spatula through them to make them become scrambled. It wasn't until I heard the toast pop that my attention was broken from the eggs. I finished cooking the eggs putting them on a plate and grabbed the toast and started to butter it.

"This for me?"

I felt the goosebumps on my arm knowing whose voice that was when I turned around to see Mike grabbing the plate and walking to the bar stool. I got to the plate fast and grabbed it back from him. I really didn't want to deal with him, and I knew by him being here Jackson would probably start with him again.

"Actually, no it isn't. That is for your brother."

"Aww come on it smells delicious. He doesn't need it as much as I do."

"If you really want some, I can cook you some too. I am still cooking. I didn't think anyone else was here."

"Fine."

He gave me a pouty lip and then went off to the bathroom as I put the plate down in front of the empty bar stool and threw the toast on it. I turned back to my mixing bowl and started the process over again. That was our first real conversation since senior year. It didn't go as bad as I thought it could go. I knew it wasn't the conversation we needed to have and that would be coming eventually.

"Hey, I put a new pair of clothes on my bed for you to change into when you want."

Jackson came in and sat down in front of the food. He was just staring down at the plate like he hadn't eaten in years.

"Thanks, I will go change after I start this next batch of eggs in the pan. Mike wanted some after smelling the ones I cooked for you."

"You don't have to cook for everyone. You didn't have to even cook for me. But this does smell better than anything I would have put together."

"I like cooking, and this is better than cooking for myself all the time."

I put the eggs into the pan and started the toast then made my way to his bedroom while those items started the cooking process. I changed into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt he left on his bed for me. They were super comfy which made me love making the decision to stay here. Once I was changed, I went back into the kitchen. I went to the eggs and started scrambling them in the pan. Once I put them on the plate, I grabbed the toast and buttered it. When I finally looked up, I noticed that Mike was sitting next to his brother watching me cook. I put everything on a plate and placed the plate in front of Mike. I started to look down to see if there was something on me but I didn't see anything on Jackson's clothes, so I didn't get why they were looking at me like that.
