Taking the uber to the parking garage didn't take long. I got into the garage and my car was one of the only ones in the building. I knew some of my co-workers or others in the building that liked to work on the weekends. I got into my car and it took a second to get the car started but once it was going I pulled out of the garage and made my drive home. You could tell the weather was starting to change with it getting darker earlier. The sun was setting as I was pulling into my parking spot at my apartment complex. I made my way into the building and once inside my place I threw my keys on the table next to the door and locked up. I pulled my phone out and opened up Jackson's text thread with me.
Have a good night. I just got back to my place. I will see you tomorrow.
I knew that letting him know I made it home would help him feel better. Jackson had such a big heart and was always in the right place when he did or said something. I went into the kitchen and grabbed a few different food items and just whipped up a simple meal. Watching TV and eating was nice and relaxing. I waited until the show was over than went and washed my plate and fork and put it in the drying rack. After putting my stuff in the drying rack I made my way to the bathroom to wind down for the night. Getting into my t-shirt and shorts I went into my room and crashed onto my bed. It didn't take long for me to fall asleep.
The next thing I knew my alarm was buzzing in the corner letting me know that it was time to get up and start the day. I was always upset with how fast the weekend went by. It always felt like I needed at least one more day. I took a few more minutes before finally deciding to get out of bed. I shut the alarm off and made my way into the bathroom and jumped into the shower. I let the hot water just roll down my shoulders. It was nice to let the water just relax my muscles. I couldn't stay in here for too long before I needed to get out. I grabbed the towel and wrapped it around myself and then walked to the sink to brush my teeth and get my hair styled. I waited to do my make-up once I was dressed. I knew I was running a little behind once I was done and looked at the clock. I grabbed a granola bar as I ran out the door to my car. The nice thing was there wasn't much traffic on the roads to hold me up. I parked my car in my usual spot and made my up to my office floor. Walking through the door Macy was the first person I saw.
"Good Morning Macy."
"Good Morning Kenna, how was the game this weekend?"
"It was good. We ended up winning the game and Jackson had a nice game as well. How was your weekend?"
"It was nice, I spent the weekend with my boyfriend and we just hung around the house."
Macy and her boyfriend started dating last year. He seemed like a nice guy when I spent time with him at the company functions. Macy was a great receptionist for the company and I was getting to know her over the last few months. I gave her a wave and made my way to my desk. I turned my computer on and mentally prepared to start this week. My phone buzzed on my desk and I noticed I had a text message.
Hey just got to the rink. Hope you have a great day at work. I will see you at lunch time.
Jackson had let me know that he was at the rink and we were still on for the lunch date. I still didn't want to get my hopes up just in case he wouldn't be able to make it once he got into the practice. I had to stop myself from going that way because I was going to keep positive; or at least I would try to get my thoughts positive. I got into my computer and started working on the reconciliations for the different accounts that I was in charge of. I was still building up my experience when it comes to working in the General Ledger department. It was a great promotion but came with a lot more work than what I was use too. I started plugging away and getting everything that needed to be done for this week. It always felt like I was going to be behind since we lost a person in our department. Before I knew it time was ticking by and it was almost lunch time. I decided I needed some time away from my desk for a few minutes. Staring at a computer screen and spreadsheets all day can make your eyes hurt nd make you go a little stir crazy; if you don't take a break every so often. I walked over to the kitchen area we have in the office and saw a few other people taking a break grabbing coffee and just doing small talk.
"Hello Kenna, how is your day going?"
"I have been living in a world of spreadsheets and financials."
I was trying to not think about what would be my lunch break but it was hard to stay focused on the recs and making sure that everything was tying out. It was nice to escape and catch up with a few people from work. Lisa and Amanda worked in the accounting department as well. They were both in receivables and were collectors for the company. I tried to be open and friendly with everyone at work because you just never know what may happen.
"Did you go to the game this weekend?"
"Yes I did."
I still haven't told anyone that I really knew Jackson because I didn't want people to ask me for anything. I know now with him coming back that it would only be a matter of time before it came out. By a matter of time I meant at lunch today when he stopped in to pick me up for lunch. I tried not to let the worry show on my face as they were looking at me.
"I saw on the news that the team won. That must be nice to see it all in person"
"Yea it is exciting to be able to be in the moment as the team wins and people are excited."
I gave a slight smile but could feel the awkwardness starting to form which made me even more nervous during this conversation. I didn't think many people here would even know who Jackson was because not many people followed hockey. We did have one girl in the marketing department that was into hockey like I was but I would just keep Jackson out of the cubicle floor when he came.
