The sun was blazing down, it had been two days since I'd been to the junk yard. I'd found some food, wasn't that good but I needed all I could get really.

"How crap can life get?" I said annoyed, under my breath.

Life really was bad, boring too. I didn't know what to think or do in that situation.

I set out again, looking to see if there was anything left. Skulls and ribs of old animals... I looked down to find a bird that was still slightly warm but obviously dead. It was a bluetit, only it was 5 times bigger! The size of a buzzard, with tallons and a scaley beak... It was the strangest thing. I thought that maybe, those storms really were supernatural. I couldn't explain it in any other way.

I crept through the empty streets, un-turfing the junk of the left over ruins of houses.

I let out a small shreik. A blood stained hand was trapped between two slabs of concrete. I chucked them away, leaving bruises on the hand where the skinny fingers where half flattened. I saw some fabric after taking more away, I checked for a pulse in the hand. THEY WHERE ALIVE! I dug as fast as I could. Then all colour left my face and I stare in awe. "CHADWICK JAMES?" I yell, looking at my old school mate in shock, remembering the monster crush I had on him just last year. His perfect emerald eyes now shut, his brown chesnut hair lying over them, he was thin and weak. I drag him out and lie him on the shreds of an old rug in the street. I hold his face with my sweating palms and chuck a bucket of water that just happened to be there over him.

Eventually his eyes started to flutter open. I rip the rest of his already damaged shirt off his feeble body, his ribs already slightly beggining to show. I never realised how... how fit/healthy he was before. I mean I knew he did football but I didn't know he had abs! I stare at him. I couldn't help it but I just had to...

"W-wah?" he wimpered. A tear rolls down my cheek as I look down at him smiling, I may have just saved a life and discovered an innocent soul not coming to chase me.

"Ch-chad?" I stroke his soft cheek, there where scars there that where rough under my fingers.

He started to look up at me and he gave a frown. My face went blanc again, had I done something wrong?

"Lola? What happened? Am I dead?" he choked out, then sitting up and coughing.

"There was... erm... how do I put it? The apocolypse happened and I dragged you from your house?" I turn away looking shy but catching his eye but I caught a small smile.

"You saved me?" he turns my head back. "Thanks, really." He gave me a quick squeeze and I feel my face turning red, that was the first proper hug I'd had from a guy.

"No problem?" I laugh nervously and look at him straight "Look, we need to go. Soon. There's these people coming after me. After any living person." I get up and pull at his arm. Then we start walking dow the lane, his hand closes round mine and I look to the side.

"Look, this is kinda awkward but since, we'll be hanging around alot... and I've known you for a long time... Maybe... You could be my partner? It doesn't have to be like a girlfriend, if you don't mind." He shook his hands like a surrender but I reply quickly.

"I'd love to, and that way sounds nice." I smile and giggle for a second and then go quiet again and I walk and Chad (Chadwick) limped down the street.

We reach the shore line. The tide only just coming in. Chad took off his trousers and dove in.

"Come on! Don't tell me you're a scaredy cat!" he splashes my clothes, my only clothes. The only thing I could to was take off my clothes, but lucky for me on that day it started I was planning on swimming anyway so I was already wearing a bikini, but before I'd needed a wash anyway. I dive in and the cool water splashes the many cuts up my arms and legs. I curse in pain and Chad swims over.

"You ok?" He squeezes my hand trying to confort me.

"Yeah, doesn't it hurt you?" I ask looking at the many slashes on his back.

"Mhmm, mine have healed over though." Then he looks into my eyes and makes my heart just turn into mush. The feelings I had for him start to flood back but it was ok because I was now his girlfriend. Kind of. "You know Lola, I've actually always liked you but you where one of the popular girls that everyone loved." He gave a low, sad sigh.

"Me? Popular? Chad, I had two friends who always loved to flirt whilst everyone was in love with you, your looks, your kindness... how do you think I felt? All I wanted was you but the prettiest girls where in my way!" I softly whisper to him, sitting down in the water so my top half was out of the water.

"Haha, well I know I am irrisistable!" He flicked his fringe sending water drops everywhere and giving a foolish grin at me like one of them "I'm so sexy" grins boys do in movies. I laugh covering my mouth and push him over with one hand, I regretted it after because I'd forgotten he probably wasn't completely recovered.

His body lay on the sand bellow the surface. A terrible guilt fell over me. What had I done? Suddenly, his body flew up as he stood up and dumped his weight on me.

"I thought I'd killed you... only for a moment!" I give a surprised smile. He leans closer to me than he already was.

"I'm happy we could be the last sane people on earth, or in England. I'm happy you're the girl I'm stuck with!" His breath now almost masking me, I look into his eyes again, those (yes) irrisistable eyes. I hated him for those. Those things that no girl could not adore. Those that made me fall inlove with him before...

My eyes widened as I realise what was happening. His eyes closed and he edged closer to me. His tender lips touch mine and suddenly I go off to that weird land of unicorns that girls normally fly off to; I wished my whole life was like that insted of that painful world I was normally in full of depression, death and ruins. I decide to close my eyes with the consiousness I still had in me.

I couldn't help it, I couldn't help but cry. He backed off, plonking opposite me.

"What?" he furrowed his brows. "Did I do something aweful?" He seemed angry and upset for some reason.

"No! No its just... My lifes been so depressing lately, well, for all of us and... You just bought all my happiness back!" I try to smile but it turned into one of those head down shy smiles.

"Aw... well thats ok then." He wades over again and gives me a hug. "We should probably go now, you know, before we're caught."

So we shook off until we where dry and got dressed again. The shore was nearly completely in. Chad had started walking when he looked back.

"You comin'?" he looked back.

"One sec." I smiled and turned back to the sea again. That vast blue ocean.
