I felt... I felt like a school girl. I mean when he said we'd be caught. Two pupils kissing in the corridors at lunch. Sounds like school to me huh? The world was now different though and nothing would be exactly normal again.

I hurry up to Chad who was quite far away. "Wait up man!" I call and scuttle up to him, linking arms.

It could have been happier surroundings but all in all our attitudes where good. Only Chad slightly limped. I smiled widely as I looked around, trying to spot any of the scientists or caniball survivors. None. I search around only this time... Movement. Not wind. Not rodents. Something was shuffling from behing the rouble and metal of a shed. I freeze in my tracks and whisper to move faster to Chad. We walk some more, glass scraping along the path making an unfortunate noise. Anyone near would hear for sure...

I hear another movement, like a dog on watch. I pick up a loaded rifel from a few steps away and stand up straight as soon as I can.

"IF ANYONE IS THERE. STAY BACK!" I bellow, swinging round in a circle and aiming the gun, shooting where the russel came from. It moved and then yelped as a twang of bullet-hitting-metal sounded. A man emerged, he wore scruffy jeans and a yellow ripped shirt and a long brown winter coat hung over his shoulders, he could use a shave that was for sure. His teeth where liquorice black and his brow constantly furrowed. His grey hair just bellow the chin. He snarled and pulled out his own gun.

" 'Ent nothin' like an earlee dinna 'ent thar?" he slurred and stepped forwards. I took a cortious step back, tugging Chads arm. There. A bead of saliva drips from his mouth and onto his beard.

I wince and turn, shooting randomly. "Run!!" I scream as loud as I can and we sprint forwards, me with my arm twisted back and firing as best I can.

There are loose stones in the pavement and my foot catches one, I stagger onto my front, the man catching up.

Was this already the end to my journy in an apocolyptic world?
