Veronica woke from a cold sweat, that dazzling smile and those deep milk chocolate eyes. They stopped her heart each time she saw him, even now in her sleep. "Spencer." She groaned his name, they hadn't had a date yet and she already dreamed of his as if he had wrapped her in his arms.

She remembered the first time she laid eyes on him, he was a trainee at the local coffee shop. She had stopped in on her way to work and he turned around at just the right time. Those eyes made her breath catch in her throat and he stood there getting red in the face as she failed to answer a simple question. "What can I get you today miss?"

Veronica chuckled to herself, she had never been so struck before. Once she got over herself, he laughed, and when she picked up her drink...there was extra sprinkles. She made sure to stop in again the following week, each time she would choke on her words when he looked at her.

Eventually she worked up the courage to make small talk. Spencer liked birds over dogs and he hated seafood. He asked her small questions as well; learning that she was allergic to cinnamon thus the sprinkles and that she was a huge Star Wars fan. Honestly she wasn't sure that these little chats would go anywhere until yesterday, when she picked up her iced coffee there was a small note scribbled on the napkin:

Zoo? 10 o'clock tomorrow?

Her heart had skipped. She fished out a five dollar bill and scribbled her answer on it. "Spencer?" She had called out to him, he turned around and took the bill from her hand. He flashed a bright smile at her, his one chipped tooth from eating concrete while skateboarding.

Now, here she was, dressed in a flowery green top and her cargo shorts, waiting for him at the main gate to the zoo.

"Veronica? She turned around and was once again breathless at the sight of his eyes. "I hope you don't mind that I bought your ticket. And I brought you an iced coffee."

She smiled, "Thank you. This just means I get lunch."

"I am okay with that." He led the way through the gates. "We can go this way, towards the kangaroos. I don't want to bore you with the birds right away."

"No! That wouldn't  bore me! I have actually been doing some research...maybe I'll know more than you." She playfully brushed him with her shoulder. In the aviary the took their time, Spencer pointed out all the birds and talked about more than what was on the plaques. Veronica listened intently.

"Spencer, would you like to do this again sometime?"

"Yes! And to be honest...I saw you and it felt like the Earth stood still."

"Me too."

"Veronica, can..I kiss you?" She nodded her head and stood on tip toes to better reach him. Birds of multiple colors flitted about them as their lips touched. Once again, Veronica's, breath was taken away, blissfully.
