Briar POV

After tryouts everyone hung about to get their uniforms and pom-poms before heading home to get ready for the party that everyone seems to be going to.

Devon dropped me and Jessica off at my house after school. He was really mad because he got his captaincy taken away from because some new guy came and was so good that the coach decided to give it to him instead. Its not surprising seeing as Devon was like the worst captain ever. Its probably wrong of me to feel like this but I'm happy he got his captaincy taken away from him; I guess I just like seeing him being hurt for once.

Right now Jessica and I are sitting in my room getting ready for the party; we've both picked out an outfit and are now doing our hair and makeup. We both picked out a red dress as we always try and colour match our outfits when we go out.

We haven't talked much today. Not since she found out I didn't break up with Devon. Right now we are sitting in silence. Jess seems mad but she hasn't said anything about it yet.

"B are we gonna just ignore the fact that you broke your promise." Jessica asks me.

"I didn't promise I would do it ... I said I would try and break up with him." I correct her. "I just didn't feel like the time was right."

"Are  you kidding me right now?" Jess rolls her eyes. "The time will never be right. You just have to do it."

"You don't get it." I shake my head. "You don't know what its like. And besides he's getting better."

"Getting better? Really?" Jess raises her eyebrows. "So that wasn't a bruise I saw covering most of your face?"

"Okay firstly, its only covering a quarter of my face and secondly that bruise is a week old. He hasn't hit me since then." I try to explain. I don't know why I'm even defending Devon right now; I know he doesn't deserve it.

"And that makes it okay?" Jess asks. "You deserve so much better than him, you know that don't you? You need to get rid of him tonight."

"I'll try, but no promises." I say.

Jess shakes her head ever so slightly; she doesn't think that I'll do it, she just doesn't understand the situation. Devon won't let me break up with him. I know he won't.
